I went to the ER and my bp was 188/102, I am in intense pain from my back but lately I have gotten worse, much worse. I can't stand up and do anything for over 5 minutes, my back and side in front is killing me and I am weak as a kitten and suffering from shortness of breath constantly. The minute my dr. heard that I have a damaged spine, forget it no checking further than that. I have something else wrong I know it but no one will listen. I am going to go see my regular dr. asap and hope she will listen. Anyway for now they have me on toridol and I still am not getting much pain relief and that is strong stuff.

Insist on an x-ray - you could easily have kidney stones. Hope you get to feeling better.

Your BP was probably up from the pain you are having. I have high BP too and I know you must really feel bad because that itsself will you make you feel like your head is going to explode and then the back and side pains too, bless your heart. I hope your regular doctor can help you out. They they don't want to listen then go to someone else until you find someone to listen and help you. I hope you get to feeling better soon. (((Hugs)))

Bless your heart! Definately insist on an X Ray. Do you think you could have broken a rib on the back? The shortness of breath reminds me of a broken rib. Did you fall recently? Have you ever had a bone density test?

PLEASE DON'T GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM!! Doctors who run the emergency room are generally interns and residences. They do not have enough experience to handle anything but broken arms and heart attacks. And I'm not sure I would want them taking care of my heart attack. They are young, text book trained but lacking actually experience.
Get an appointment with your regular doctor and trust what this person with years of experience tells you. Your blood pressure is high because you are in pain but pain is your body telling your something is wrong. Call your doctor and explain to whoever picks up the phone that you are in excessive pain and need to see the doctor asap.
I hope that it is something that can be handled quickly and easily.

Sorry, Schsa, but that's the silliest thing I've ever heard of.
Mesue, I've been to the ER numerous times... just tell them you don't want an intern... I personally have NEVER had an intern... unless they didn't go to medical school until they were 40... and they have ALWAYS been excellent at diagnosing my kidney stones. I also went in not that long ago cause I thought I was having a heart attack... it turned out that the pain I was feeling was tennis elbow and since I have a panic disorder I made everything else worse... I went to my regular doctor for a follow up and she concured w/ everything he'd said... on top of that, my cousin used to be a nurse in one of the busiest ERs in the country so I *know* that most doctors (including the interns) are great doctors...
At any rate... I agree w/ the first person who replied... make whoever you see check you for kidney stones and gallbladder stones... I'm sure you aren't a pushover, but even if they are insistant... YOU are paying for THEM, not the other way around, so MAKE them do what you want them to do!

aw, ((((Hugs)))) I agree, Bless your heart.
Becareful too, Toradol is a anti-inflammatory drug
(They can cause ulcers :( ) & should be used with caution in case your pain is caused from your kidneys or liver. ( would damage them more) :(
Just a thought,
But, if you're taking any other kind of medication maybe you might be allergic to them ? having a drug reaction by taking two or more different medicines together? some side effects can be lower back or side pain; shortness of breath; increased blood pressure, etc..
If so? you should check with your doctor immediately.
Don't suffer.
Be persistence and go see your Dr. &
I Hope (((mesue))) you feel better soon.
Here's some Info on Toradol I found.

People with drug problems have caused people with legitimate back pain to have problems getting treatment. Drug seekers use back pain as the number one way to get drugs because it is so subjective. Because you suffer from back pain the doctor may have just thought you were another drug seeker even though your complaints weren't about your back this time. Go to your regular physician and explain to her that this is different from the pain you are accustomed to having. Everyone should get to know their doctor and have their doctor know them. It may take 3 or 4 visits to establish a raport with the doctor and have him understand your nature and what is normal for you. ER doctors are like any other doctors, some good, some bad. Most of my experiences with ER doctors have been good. I had one bad experience when the doctor never touched me,talked to me 3 seconds while poking his head in the curtain and did an exray , said my arm was not broken but it was. All my other experiences have been good and they have been numerous.

I am a nursing student & there are red flags all over everything you say you're experiencing, I disagree about not going to the E.R. your regular doctor will only send you there anyway if it's as bad as you say. I suggest you go back and be persistent that this is NOT your normal pain & YOU KNOW there is something very wrong. Don't let anyone downplay your symptoms. It's their job to find out what's wrong. I hope things work out!

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts and words, I called my regular dr. and made an appt. for next friday, hubby has that day off and can take me. I gave my license up, I just never renewed them due to the fear that my leg is weak from the back injury and I was afraid due to slow reaction I might hurt someone. I have a ruptured disk that has deteriorated to the point that it has formed polps on my spine, several other disks are damaged as well and since they did not find it for so long the nerve damage is bad and neurologist surgeon said no point in doing surgery, that would only do more harm due to scar tissue. that was years ago and since then my back just keeps getting worse. My dr. is a really a good dr and I trust her so I will make sure she knows everything. The ER doctor wants me to have PT but there is no way I can do that more than once a week unless they come here. Buglebe you are so right about drug addicts making it hard to get proper pain medication, once a long time ago I took my daughter to the E.R and there was a guy in there screaming and telling the staff what to give him, heck I believe he knew more about drugs than the drs, needless to say he did not get them. I try not to take meds unless absolutely neccessary due to I know a lot of people who have taken meds until there are really not much pain relief for them anymore, their body is used to it all. Anyway i guess I had better go lie down for awhile my BP is making my head hurt and the only thing that helps is laying down.

Oh honey, bless your heart. I am going to pray for you every chance I get and I bet you anything you will be feeling better in no time! Jesus is the strongest pain relief there is honey.
I also want to tell you that I noticed that a lot of folks replying to you had some quotes on the bottom of their post that bothered me honey. They were evil quotes that don't do the Lord justice and I want you to not read those quotes if you can help it. Those quotes will make you sicker honey.
God bless you,
Ruth
