I was off from work for 8 days, filled out two forms which my boss sent to me and provided a doctors note the same day I got sick, during the time I was sick and then another when I got released. Boss says ok, she'll forward the paperwork to the corporate office and told me to go ahead and work (this was last Friday). Today (Wednesday) I get a phone call and an email from corporate saying I have no business being out there working because the proper release paperwork was never submitted. They currently have me at 12 days off of work. I told them that my boss has the proper paperwork and she told me to go ahead and work. They then tell me they need a "Physicians Certification Form" from the doctor that my boss never gave to me! Now I have been working all this time and driving all over God's creation for FREE!!!!!! I will not be receiving a paycheck - which REALLY stinks for my family since I am the only one working, DH is unable to work due to a spinal injury and has surgery coming up in November, I have the kids to feed and my my elderly Mom to care for and support. I am so doomed, there goes the mortgage, the bills, food. WE HAVE NOTHING NOW!
Oh, where's the boss to fix all this???? On her week's vacation somewhere where she is unreachable. If I had the $ I would so get an attorney. Right?

Call your doctor and have them fax a copy of the Physicians Certification of Good Health. Then call the labor board and tell them what has happened. They cannot deny you a pay check. You will get paid.

My boss just called from her vacation place. She never even apologized for not giving me the correct forms to give to the doctor. i just dropped off the forms at his office and since he's so swamped they told me they'll give me a call when he has them filled out, so here's another day lost - maybe he'll have them done tomorrow?! I hate to even ask if I'll be compensated for being off today and tomorrow because of her stupidity. I have been raked over the coals so much with this job because they can't keep their **** together. Do I even bother demanding the $ for today and tomorrow?

Call the labor board and find out what you can and cannot do for compensation for their mistake.

ok...calm down..I agree you need to get a hold of the Labor Board, that said, if I knew where you worked or what kind of place, I would wonder if you have an actual Human Resources, and since a re-read, you have a Coperate office.. because somewhere there has to be a person, hire up than your boss..something is amiss here, and here is the CLUE you should consider..she called YOU from her vacation place..so that must mean she has got to KNOW she has dropped the ball, somewhere..If you can get the report paper from someone there, you need to get it signed, that is NO HASSLE..for anyone to tell you "you had no business working", IS NOT your MISTAKE.
I am the "X" Law Student here, and I can tell you if you had worked, firstly you MUST be paid, regardless.. second, if you had worked and not paid, which is impossible, again... and an accident had occured to you in ANY WAY, the "POOP WOULD HIT THE FAN"..(can I say that?)..it is impossible for you to have been at work and accountable and not have been covered by thier insurance, meaning Workman's COMP., it can't happen..even if your PAPERWORK wasn't in order,(and sounds like NO FAULT to YOU) you were there, and did your end of your responsibility with the Dr. release..regardless of WHAT she says or has done, it is a "double negative"..you can't NOT BE PAID just because she screwed this up, it is impossible NOT to pay you even if the paperwork was accepted and perhaps WRONG.. and the Labor Board and the OWNER'S of your workplace will KNOW this..heck, you KNOW it, so keep going to work..They HAVE to pay you or you have one HECK of a LAWSUIT..
And since I re-read this, I think because they did accept you at work, at one point, I, PERSONALLY, would FORCE the "ENVELOPE" on your Boss's mistake, it wasn't anything but her mistake ( or there's)..NOT your's..and you should ask for LOST WAGES, on your behalf, if she is UNAVAILABLE, means nothing to you, KEY, she called you..remember to tell the Corperate People this, is important, you are making what is called a "timeline" for events that occured..
And IF I have gotten this right, you will get your days off paid, or something agreeable, and you should HOLD out for this..you MUST, this is a heck of a MESS, on HER not YOU.
Also, I might write a note, soon, as this starts to settle, or before, or NOW, you, in your hand of writing, "fear retalation of your Boss", this will protect you, later..if she or he get's in trouble and becomes mean to you, in anyway, and get that in your employee file, I assume, this is gonna be a bit of a MESS..
So, take a breath..it will turn YOUR way..believe me..as abstract as my response is to you...it will work out.
Trust me on this one...

Thanks CatDance, well said. I spoke with her boss today and she's just saying the same thing, I wasn't cleared to return to work and I guess from what she says, my boss had no authority to authorize me back to work. I don't work in an office environment, I'm in reatail service and support and I travel alot for this compnay, that's why they didn't know until Wednesday that I was out in the field. I guess that's when they noticed that reports were coming in to them from my laptop to their database. What really angers me is that she can't even admit she did me wrong. In any case, I am to expect a call from my boss and her boss on Monday to "clarify things". Meanwhile, I still sit at home and not get paid because of her stupidity.
So what do you think CatDance....am I entitled to be paid my salary for sitting home when it wasn't my fault that the paperwork was goofed up by my boss? If it wasn't for her, I'd be out there working and making money.

Ya know I should just E-mail you, but here it is:
Yes, for the days you did already work and then were excused from working, on thier behalf with THEM as the people who mixed everythig up..As far as I can see, and you need to "stay with me here", As I told you, and clearly, I can see it is a created TIMELINE, which is in place, in your case, you were ill, that is FACT, you returned to work with your paperwork in hand, FACT, you worked, FACT, and then your Boss has a vacation, and you get a call from the business stating you aren't cleared for working and you need a said document, which you didn't have, and were asked to leave work, until you have these papers? This I am not clear on, but we go forward, the BOSS calls you from her VACATION, this part is SO VERY KEY, it places her guilty, and responsible, regardless if she apologizes, no difference, it says she KNOWS something..and she does..and she is going to if she hasn't gotten some STATIC about why she cleared you for work, and this is KEY, you become thier liablity, and if the don't have there "ducks in a row",they have to figure a way to COVER this, and this is a MESS.. they are gonna excuse you first, and displine the heck outta her, (this why the note to her in your hand says you fear retaliation is important, trust me it is) and I hate to write this, you are supposed to "sit there and take it"..you are suppose to have feelings and get mad, but you aren't to do anything more, that is how employers think, they don't think the average worker can afffored an attorney or anything and they expect you to be "pissy", but hand over fist, they assume a "will win", in thier mind and really you can quit..but the other hand says this, if you can stand NOT being paid and this crud that has been kind placed on you, to NO FAULT of yourself, then fine, if you DON'T agree, then I would be ON the phone when that call comes and be CRYSTAL clear, in FACTS, (not FEELINGS, this will kill you), state WHAT HAPPENED,let them KNOW you KNOW what you are talking about, this is why a TIMELINE is gonna be great if you can get this mastered... and your FACTUAL loss of WAGES, and you know they have to PAY FOR the days you did work, it is just simply against the law not to, NO MATTER WHAT..
So here is a piece of advice, keep calm, when this call occurs, (leave your feelings, next to you on the couch), figure out in FACTS what happened, LISTEN to what they are saying and at one point you will get to I assume, to tell them your verision, and you can do the TIMELINE there, if you can do that, you will be heard, often times people get thier feelings SOOOO invovled and it becomes a frustrating disaster, and one never really knows what happened, and gives employers an easy way out..I am not saying you are this type of person, but even look here at BBS, it happens all the time..so stay with the POINT and FACTS, they don't want to lose you, I am sure, and they DON'T want to pay UNEMPLOYMENT either, I am sure, they want a calm "turnaround", which I am sure you want, and your lost wages, so when you get to talking about that, leave your FEELINGS OUT and your HOUSEHOLD, it is about you working and getting paid, and having to sit HOME and WANTING to WORK, and couldn't because your BOSS, failed to do her job, thus you didn't get to do YOURS.
And the last few lines is EXACTLY WHY you need to be paid, this was at NO FAULT to you..you did everything right and your Boss, simply DROPPED the ball..
And by the way, I have been thinking about this, is EXACATLY why, one can pay $100+ an hour to an attorney..we,(they) have to PONDER SUCH..
I hope you understand what I am saying..
TTAAA DDAAAA!

Update: Well, to make a long story short, I'm getting my pay for the days I worked plus the two days they had me off because of my boss' negligence. Bad part: I am without a job now. I'm not even gonna get into as to why, just the way it is in corporate America. Seems you can't accomplish something without something else tackling you from behind.
Back to hitting the pavement.

QueenAngie..simple, I went to law school, and my Father likes FOOD more than another attorney on his kid's..how do I know, quite easy, if we are so smart at BBS and solve alot of problem's amongst ourselves, there would be alot of attorney's out of practice..also I paid attention, and I remembered who I was, I take KUDO'S if you think I am smart..here is a KEY for all who read what, I read WHAT I WRITE, in any given situation, if you stop YOUR FEELING'S and get to FACT'S, you can find any answer..I wrote for my 20th reunion, in my ditty for a pass out book, ya know, the one that everyone gets, thankfully I had no Senior picture and sad at once, I still look the same, just better..I wrote:
something like this:
"Whatever you are looking for, you already have, and makes no sense to look any further,( and this is a steal from Wizard of OZ"), if wasn't ever in your own backyard, you never really lost it"..and why, because it is true...and in the end of that movie, Dorothy, just had to figure a way out, and get was most important...
and I leave all to ponder what that is..

Catdance,
I think it's great that friends help each other here at BBS.
My hat is off to you.
NL1720, so sorry that you're looking for another position.
At least you got paid, which is a good thing.
