I get into this with my sister EVERY October now ... she tells me how I am subjecting my children to Evil Influences by dressing in costumes and trick or treating; by allowing them to read ( or watch ) Harry Potter ect. This from a person who used to throw block parties at Halloween, turn her home into a Haunted House for the neighborhood kids.

I have extended family members who think Halloween is evil. They also threw Halloween parties when our kids were young. This cousin also had a hissy about a rumor that 'devil worshipers' who were going to sacrifice blonde haired blue eyed children on Halloween (both of our daughters had blonde hair and blue eyes). I think that was the year they quit celebrating Halloween, even though nothing happened.
Halloween did begin as a pagan holiday, but there is nothing satanic about paganism.
Harry Potter is fiction....just like Snow White.

My mother also believes that Halloween is a Satanic holiday....along with nearly everyone she goes to church with. So, to keep kids from celebrating Halloween by trick-or-treating, they through a big varnival type thing.....complete with rides, games, and tons of candy. How this is different from celebrating Halloween, I have yet to understand, but to each their own......Personally, I believe Halloween, just like any other holiday, is what you make of it......

No... Halloween is NOT a Satanic holliday... and except for the fact that one is written by a Christian author... I have yet to figure out why Lord of the Rings is ok and Harry Potter is not... they're both full of magic and folk lore... but only one is ok... go figure.

This is a really good site for anyone that is interested in learning more about the history of Halloween.

Halloween or All Hallows Eve, originated from the Pagan Holiday Samhain (pronounced sow-wen). Its name means summers end. This spirit connotation originated as the ancient Celtic druids paid tribute with gifts and food (and sometimes it was rumored sacrifices) to the spirit world to insure that next year’s crop would be bountiful. It was a time for communicating with the dead and receiving wisdom from past ancestors to insure prosperity.
When the Christians set about to convert the pagans, some adaptation of these spiritual rituals had to be made to keep the Pagans in the Church. Therefore, November 1st became “All Saints Day” to honor all those in heaven and October 31st was tacked on as “All Hallows Eve” or Halloween, the night when all the dead are remembered.

As for our family, Halloween is a wonderful day where you can let your imagination run wild. It's a night of make believe and dress up. We are not worshiping or celebrating anything but the spirit of fun. I guess it's what you make of it, regardless of how it originated. To each his own, right?

Halloween is okay in my book as long as it stays light. Too many people make it a bad day by thinking that it is evil and going out and harming others.

I don't think it is satanic. People are the ones who do mischief, not mythical characters from stories.

Even devote Christians need to know Christmas was incorporated into the church from a day that "pagans" used to celebrate.

i believe for the general populas not anymore....it is just a giant commercialized costume day.

i am sure there are those satanist who do perform rituals on that particular night. but then again i am sure they do thier rituals on other nights as well.

i am catholic. so the day after halloween is very important.
all saints day.

thats right..not many people know that.
but the way chritmas has changed froma religious day to a commercialized day.. is the same transformation halloween has taken.

i guess you can say the true evil on halloween is comercialism.

Nope, I don't believe it's satanic at all! That's so silly! There is nothing evil about Halloween...well, unless you count the pounds some of us (READ: me) pack on from all that candy!! lol :D

halloween is bigger than Christmas in my house. It is much more creative and much more relaxing...as far as a family gathering goes!
I have a dear friend who believes that it is a satanic ritual.

All I can say is "Oh well!".....

Halloween is Teenies favorite holiday too - personally I do not like it and that is only because I know fall is here and winter is right around the corner. But its just fun for the kids.

Ok, in the spirit of Halloween (sorry, didn't wanna start my own thread)... I was looking through the Halloween galleries on our local news website and found the coolest dog.

http://images.ibsys.com/2004/1004/3781322.jpg

The caption below the pic reads:

This dog from Southlake is named Boo and will grace its owner's Halloween cards.

If the pic doesn't show up... you can go to nbc5i.com and look at the galleries under "The Boo View" sorta in the middle top of the page.

I guess if you celebrate it "satanically", then it would be satanic.... lol

What's satanic about kids dressing up and getting candy door-to-door? uhhhh... nothing!

I'm dressing up for Halloween in my clown suit with the rainbow wig. I pass out candy and get some too. Halloween is very evil :D I worship the Kit Kat devil :D I have 2 Pagan friends and they most certainly do NOT worship the devil or satan or any evil at all.

As kids we dressed up and had police escorts to walk down the streets to parade for all to see us. Then we went to the park and bobbed for apples, had cidar and donuts, contests for our costumes. Way back then no one injected drugs or razor blades into our goodies. You didn't have to put you address on the wrapped homemade goodies like popcorn balls or brownies. And when we got home we could eat what we wanted without parents having to check everything over first.

This is my opinion of Halloween - just plain fun :) It's a silly time :)

Forgot to add, we wore our costumes to school and had parties of homemade cupcakes, candy corn, Kool-aid that the room Mother's provided.

That is all so sweet.....like Halloween USED to be prior to the food police, politically correct nuts and the looneys who do evil on Halloween. Sad, isn't it, how times change in what, 50 years? :(

I don't believe halloween is satanic or evil either. We have some friends who do think that way and instead of celebrating halloween they celebrate the Fall Harvest w/ their kids. To each their own I always say. I have always loved halloween getting dressed up and everything, in fact it is my most favorite holiday.

More like last fifteen to twenty years. Unless you count the last year I went out trick or treating, knocked on the door, and the people's German Shephard crashed through the screen door. Last house I ever went to. Needless to say my Dad, who took us out, wasn't to happy. The people had forgotten to put the dog up. Lucky me, first to visit their house. :D That was about 100 years ago.

I heard that the "razor balde in an apple" prank was not real. Same with poison candy. Reportedly, only 2 people in the last 30 years have died from halloween candy. :)

Although it doesn't hurt to be safe.

We’re the ones who have to shine
If there’s no one in control
We’re the ones who draw the line
Though we live in trying times-
We’re the ones who have to try
Though we know that time has wings-
We’re the ones who have to fly” -Rush

Well, when it comes to $20 a pop for a cheaply made costume that will only be worn once, maybe that is satanic! I'm kidding. Halloween is no more about what the true holiday was. Sahmsfreed is right-it's just commercialized nonsense. It really irritates me, though, that the kids can't wear their costumes to school. I guess I'm not PC enough/

I voted yes and as a christian that is my personal belief. Halloween is full of devils, witches and etc... I could go on and on but if anyone is interested a have sevral pages on why as christians believe halloween is a devils day. We do not celebrate it and go to a fall festival that night instead for our child. At the age of 13 i will let my son decide what he believes inbut until then as a parent it is my responsibility to instill my values on him. This is my opinion please do not flame.

I don't think ALL christians feel as though it's satanic. I know many christians who celebrate Halloween.

Also Pagans were mentioned in this thread and since I am one I will comment on it. Pagans are often referred to as satanists or devil worshippers. Pagans don't even believe in the devil so how could they worship something that they don't believe exists.

I'm a Christian as well. If our children don't know the difference between good and evil, real and make believe...then we have bigger problems than Halloween and Harry Potter.

Halloween is just a day of fun as far as I am concerned. Let the kids spend a day to pretend that they are someone/something else. And adults get all dressed up so that they can be like kids again.

I don't see many people in my neighborhood out worshiping trees or pagan idols on Halloween, do you?

Halloween is our favorite holiday! I don't think it is satanic, but my sister who is a Jehovah's wittness won't come anywhere near our house when we have our Halloween decorations up. lol
