OMG, I am so mad. This is the third time in a couple months that this has happened. We bank at a well known bank chain whom you would think would be better capable of keeping track of their transactions. First off, we basically use our debit card for everything. We rarely write checks anymore unless its for a bill or pizza delivery etc. A few weeks ago we had some things that we used our bank card for deducted twice each, which put us in the whole, caused some things to be returned and charged fees. It took the bank a couple days to straighten it all out and the fees were reversed and items paid , etc but still it took days to get it figured out and in the mean time our bank account was screwed up to the point we couldnt use it all due to bank error. Well, Sunday I get gas, FILLED UP, got cigs for DH, pop n snack for DS who was with me, well over $60 total, use my bank card. Sunday night I go online to check my account & balance my books, and sure enough, it happened again. It was deducted twice. I called the bank Monday morning and they gave me the line "oh it will drop off tonight when everything is processed, the computer will catch it, yada yada" The EXACT same thing they told me last time and it didnt happen that way. Well, I check my account this morning and the double deduction is STILL on there double and now it has caused me to show negative. We keep our bank account pretty much to the penny. I left just enough money in there to cover DH for gas back n forth to work for the week and now we dont have access to it until the bank fixes once again another error. Sure, they will straighten it out in a few days  buts its total BS that we dont have access to our own $$ until they fix their own screw up! uggghhhh makes me so damn mad and frustrated!

Ohhh I would be livid. They screw up not just once, but three times and then casually say "it will drop off over night." Oh no, go to the bank and raise a fuss. First of all, there is no reason for your account to be debited twice for the same transaction. Your available balance is tied up because of the double charges and if you needed the money, it would be declined, even if the funds were there. If you don't mind saying so, which bank is this? I would like to warn any of my family and friends that may bank with them.
Good luck.

The first time I would forgive them. The second time I might forgive them. But the third time I would pull my money and find a smaller bank to deal with. They don't have to care about you or your money. They are big and if they mess up your account, well, gosh but that's just too bad.
Personally I would find a customer service rep in a local branch and close out my account and then tell them why you are changing your banking and where you are opening your account and that you are going to tell everyone you know what horrible service they have and what they do if you use a debit card.
Bad news travels fast and banks don't want to know that you are going to take your money and go elsewhere. But don't allow them to treat you this way and get away with it.

yea, I suggested that to DH. Thing is .. his payroll check gets direct deposited in there. My gf works at the bank and she said if we switched it might take a few weeks to get all the way transferred (by the time he turned in the paperwork at his work and they notified both banks, etc) and any money that may get deposited in there by his work before the switch may be tied up by the time the bank reversed the deposit, etc. Just one frustration after another. And at his work he has no choice. He has to go direct deposit. They dont pass out paper checks at his employment anymore. Alot of places are doing this now. The last place I worked at was the same way.

Same with my DH.. when we switched banks we opend the account and then put the switch in for the direct deposit and once the first direct deposit was made we cleared the other account out. It usually only takes 2 pay periods to change a direct deposit. Dont let a little thing like DD prevent you from switching. We left our bank because they were overcharging us and holding onto our money for periods of time before allowing us acces to it. Now we use a different back and are MUCH happier, more ATM's available, immediate transactions posted to the web, etc. I am very happy with everything now and wish we would have switched long ago!!

I have been in the same position. For the past 4 months I have been overcharged also for some purchases that were made on my debit. I ended up in the hole more than once. Hubby also has direct deposit and with him not here long enough it's hard to change banks . Well I finally got so mad about a month ago and took some money out and went over to another bank incase my normal bank screws up again.

This is why I choose to bank with small banks, they have great features like online banking like the big chains but all the niceness of small town hospitality. I have never been asked to show my ID since my local bank knows me, I have been banking their for a couple of months, I have had two problems with my accounts and it was fixed within 24 hours along with an apology, it makes me feel good that my bussiness is appreciated and I have always been treated very politely. I would change banks ASAP

Time to change banks and let them know why. Or pick a busy day like friday evening and talk (loudly) about this persistant problem. Pull your credit report because bounced checks are on there too and this could cause credit problems later. Let other customers hear you. Let the bank know you want them to hear you. I bet the bank hears you too and figures out the problem.

I'd like to know too, before it happens to me. My Fleet changed over to BoA and I hope you're not talking about them; otherwise I'll be keeping an eye on them at all times!
