View Full Version : Venting about the economy and so on

All I can say is the economy stinks. My dh has been trying to get a new job for almost a year so we can relocate. Our lives always seem like they are on hold. Everything we want to do is a major "discussion." Every place we think will be good to locate to turns out to have 1) bad crime or 2) few jobs. I have been researching this for a year and I am sick of this SAME annoying thing hanging over us. Today I told my dh I am sick of these discussions, sick of waiting for life to start, sick of it all.

We debate every stupid thing into the ground but NOTHING changes. :( First we were going to get a second car, then not because we don't want to run out our little savings. I am so sick of the phrase "WHEN WE MOVE!!!"

We have at least 4 or 5 conversations a week directly about "how he can get a job" or "where we are moving to".....AGRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Meanwhile, every body else is trying to escape Long Island in droves as well because the cost of living is so high here.

Okay, thanks for letting me vent. No comments necessary!

I grew up under that threat. My whole childhood was based on the idea that my father would be transferred back to the city they had come from. We always lived with the fear of being yanked out of school and moving. My parents wanted to move back. So many things were put off or postponed because we "might move". Yes I understand that too. My parents lived in the same house 54 years. No they never moved.

{{{{{{hugs}}}}}} stay away from Ohio, the economy is horrid here too. We can't move so all of our discussions start and end with "when we can afford to...." Hope something opens up for you.

Move down here. There are plenty of jobs and the cost of living is reasonable. Our unemployment rate is under 5%. The only people who aren't working are those who don't want to work. The weather is good and so are the schools.

I understand what you are saying. It is why we left Long Island 11 years ago. The property taxes alone are enough to drive a person out of the island. It is sad. I grew up there. I loved it there. And I know I can never live there again. Sadly, I see this happening in Vegas now. Not the property taxes, but the prices of homes are thru the roof. The rent is also crazy. The crime is also getting bad.
Charleston SC sounds good to me. The last person just posted about it. It is a beautiful city. I love the south.

Good luck to you.

{{{{hugs}}}} I hope things turn around for you soon. I know how hard it is to try and find a job. They keep saying that Vegas is a good place to come for jobs since the workforce is "great" ok... but the housing is ridiculous like cookiegirl said and I would never suggest anyone w/ a kid moving here, I just don't see that it's kid friendly. Hopefully you can find a safe, affordable neighborhood with a good job market.

Thanks for listening. You guys are so sweet to offer suggestions. I am sure Vegas is nice, but I would NEVER go there with a child...sin city...and families? Well, anyhow, I think there must be some place. I will find it.

My property taxes are under $500 for a three bedroom home. Think about it.

Everytime I see that ad with Bush talking about how good the economy is, I keep wondering what country he's living in!

The economy in Michigan is the pitts!
