There is no way I'd let any 'loss prevention" officer or anyone else take my child into a store bathroom alone for any reason. If you think my child took something, you'd better have a place where you can do what you have to do in front of me.

Police: Fake Cop Molested Child

Web Editor: Tracey Christensen
Last Modified: 9/15/2004 4:29:08 PM

A man posing as a police officer molested a 10-year-old boy in the restroom of a Wal-Mart store, Lawrenceville, Ga., police said.

Officials were expected to hold a news conference later Wednesday in which they will release a surveillance videotape of the suspect.

According to the child's mother, the man approached her and her 10-year-old son as they left the store on Collins Hill Road and Highway 316.

The man showed a badge and said the boy had been caught shoplifting. The man said he would have to check out the son and escorted him away.

According to the child, the man took him to a restroom and molested him. He stopped when a cleaning person entered.

Investigators have reviewed surveillance videotape have pictures of the suspect entering the store.

OMG that is terrible. I have to wonder why the childs mother wouldn't insist upon being present while this so called search was taking place. I would never allow someone to take my minor child out of my sight regardless of what the person said the child had done. NO WAY would I allow it to happen. I would imagine the childs mother feels terrible, but at the same time what the heck was she thinking to permit it in the first place?

OMG!! Why didn't the mother go with him?? I would not have let them search my child without me or his father being with him. That is so scary. I guess you really wouldn't know what to think especially since he showed a badge.

I hope they catch that man and put him away for life!!

I personally would of cared less if they showed a badge, still would of insisted I stay with my child.

In todays world a security badge or ID means very little to me. You can't be to careful in todays world. Rather its law enforcement or utility personel if I ever felt something was odd or they claimed the needed to enter the house without me being contacted prior, I would lock my door and ask them to wait while I verified identy.

There is no reason in the world anyone would talk to or search my child if they are accused of something. No minor should be left alone. Thank god for the cleaning person. Mom were are your brains security doesn't talk to a child alone or search them. I hope they get the ****** and put him in jail and gets just revenge.

This is a horrible story, for the child to have to go thru that, and I have to ask why didn't the mom call the police when her son told her.

Oh I would have insisted I went with him too or I would have just went on home... with my child! Badge or not he would have either had me with him or he wouldn't have went.

I just said the badge part because some people wouldn't have thought anything bad. They would have thought he was real because he flashed the badge. They tell people on the news and things to ask for a badge if someone shows up at your house to do work on phone lines, cable or whatever but now you just can't go by that. Like someone else said, you can buy them over the internet now and some people may not know that and just think that the guy was for real. Its so scary how people use authority like that to hurt people, expecially kids.

There is no logical reason why any mother would let a small child go with any sort of authority figure. And no real authority figure would have taken the child without the mother.

What was she thinking? Good thing that this was interupted but still, there is something very wrong with all of this. The mother should have never let the child go alone.

Unfortunately, molestation can occur even if the man has no privates. People are sick.

When I was growing up you were taught to that if you were in trouble to find a police officer...now you can't even be sure about that. I've read stories in the news about guys dressing up their cars with the bubble gum lights and spotlights to pull unsuspecting women over. It's easy enough to buy a uniform and you can get badges and patches over the internet. I am so glad I grew up when and where I did.

SICK SICK SICK

I don't understand the mother letting him take her child in the bathroom either. There's no way anyone would have done that to one of my kids, badge or not.
This happened last week and was just reported yesterday. That bothers me.....what if this happened to anonther child during that week?
They released security camera pictures of him entering the store, I hope he's caught soon. There seems to be a rash of people impersonating police here lately.

Mama.....they're building a new Walmart at the intersection of 29 and Lawrenceville-Suwanee Rd. That one will be a little closer to us.
