Send the lawyer a cease and desist letter. You can find one on the internet and the letter states that you will deal directly with the company you owe. That will get rid of the lawyer. Then you have two choices, to ignore the bill or to contact the phone company and deal with them directly. The choice is up to you.

Then you have two choices, to ignore the bill or to contact the phone company and deal with them directly. The choice is up to you.

Please take caution when sending out these type of letters. I advise that you visit www.creditboards.com. Knowledgable people are there as regulars who will be happy to help.

When sending a cease and desist you want to advise them that you prefer to be contacted by mail only. If you send a complete C&D you leave the debt collector no other option to file suit. While this is not an event that happens often, it can happen. If you leave them no other way to contact you with a full C&D, than serving you with a court summons is their only option. Therefore I'd advise that you put in your letter (if you send one) that you wish to be contacted by mail only.

But it sounds like they are only contacting you by mail at this point anyhow. You may live in a state that has a 7 year SOL, people at creditboards would know more. Check it out ;)
