I'm sorry that happened to you :(

The only people in my family I will loan money to is my parents... thats only because I don't care if they pay me back or not.

Well I am the borrower of this thread, six months ago I borrowed $400 from my grandfather, my car was in the shop with a crack in the oil pan and my exhusband and father in law was in the hospital as well as my grandmother. My grandfather hounds me to death about this money, I have sent him every single spare dime I have, even if it is only $5, often going without any frills because I value my word. When I borrowed the money he said dont worry how long it takes to pay me back, I know you are good for it :o Sorry didnt mean to take over your thread with my own vent

I know the feeling!!We have recently paid my in laws $200 gas bill, and $150 directv bill.Got the money back fast but i was highly annoyed.Come income tax time they are calling.
Almost a yr ago I(MEANING ME) lent my brother in law $300 outta MY paycheck.Took forver to get it back, then one night i read over my husbands shoulder that he will give it to as AFTERhe gets a computer minitor
So my dh showed him where to get one cheap and he said well after i get the monitor ill give you the money, that way if the place was a scam hed be able to get another monitor :( :( :(
I have also been on the other end i borrowed $3,000 from my grama to replce the tranny in our car.Took about 2 months but it was fully paid off.

I learned my lesson, NEVER LOAN MONEY. If you want to keep your sanity, never do it.

my mom borrowed 300.00 bucks from me at one time to help fix my brothers truck. when it came time that I needed that money back (that was a big chunk of change for me) she said "I told you thank you for it. I didn't think you wanted it back" long and short of it, she told me unless we had an agreement in writing, she didn't owe me a thing.......this is why I have very little to do with them now.

Never a lender nor a borrower be. IMO if you loan money don't ever expect to get it back, that way if you don't you won't be disappointed or mad, and if you do get it back you will have a nice surprise. I hate to lend money but I will, I hate to make some go without if I could help.

Sorry you havent gotten your money, but my rule is

Don't lend what you can't afford to give away.

It's not that I couldn't afford to "give it away", I could afford it. It is the principle.

Hahah sorry lmao, I never lend money... cause I don't have any and I never borrow cause I can't pay it back.

Thats the way I think Wendy. I would hate to lose a friend or family member over money loaned to them.

I also assume when I give someone money that I won't see it again. I don't expect it back and that way if I do get it back, then I can lend it again.

I realize that when someone starts to avoid you after you have lent them money you are probably not going to see that money again. Too bad because he has ruined a good relationship over something that was so minor.

If your family needs money and you are in a position to help them,
make up your mind that it is a gift.
If you are paid back, great.

If you can't help them, just say so.
