Oh my, the kids bus driver just called to tell me that on Monday we will have a new bus driver. The kids have been getting on the bus at about 7 am but now they will be getting on at 6:10!!!!!!!!! The big crusher is that we only live about 3 miles from the middle and high schools. I wish now that I drove and I would take the kids to school instead of having them ride the bus. My little one is in Kindergarten this year and this is just going to be so hard on her to get up at that time of day.....not to mention hard on her dear old mother!! :o

Dang that is early especially for your little one. I don't get why just because they have a new bus driver that the times they get picked up changes. I think I would call the school and say something and if that don't help call the superintendent of the schools.

I would also be calling to find out why they have to catch the bus so much earlier now. Thats way to early for any kid, especially the little ones.

Well, I called the school, the new driver, and the superintendent. The principal at the school who is usually really nice was no help at all. He told me, not so politely, that they are not even required by law to send a bus for students that live as close to the school as we do.
Then the bus driver said that since her route is changing that someone has to be the one to get on first and it turns out that our road is the one that makes the most sense for her new route, so she was no help.
The superintendent wasn't much help either, they only have a certain amount of buses and this is the way it has to be.
They are to arrive at school at 7:45, so they will be on the bus from 6:10 to 7:45, an hour and a half to travel 3 miles.......only 5 miles for the elementary school.
The little ones bedtime has been 8:30 but I guess now it will have to be 7:30, and instead of getting up at 5:45 the older ones will have to get up at 5.

maybe you ca check with the parents of some kids close to you.. they may not like this new time too, and your kids could ride with them, if they are going to drive them.

I would definatly see if there is a car pool going on and offer to contribute money for gas. It's outrageous for a child to spend that much time for such a short distance.
Check around. There have to be other mothers who are just as unhappy with this situation as you are.

Can you not walk them to school? That's exactly what I would be doing.....at least they'd be getting exercise instead of being cooped up on a bus for over an hour.

Car pooling sounds like a great idea. To be at the bus stop at 6 AM is crazy! Not just because that is an extreamly early time to leave for school but because you have to wake up so early to get ready. I hope you figure something else out for them.
If nothing at all, maybe they'll become morning people out of all of this and you won't have to worry about dragging them out of bed every morning when they get older.

Thats stinks that no one will help with that and the kids will have to get up so early. I would think they would go to the one the farthest out and work there way in to the school.
Talk to some of your neighbors that have school children and see if any of them drive there children to school. Maybe they would be willing to take yours with them.
Have you ever thought about maybe learning to drive. If for no other reason then to take the kids back and forth to school.
