:o Right now I am really hurt and I am trying not to be, you know that old verse sticks and stones may break my bones will never hurt, well they do :( Today I found out that my diabetes has jumped from excercise/diet to medication dependant, I have NO medical insurance. I am pretty worried about how to pay for everything right now, so far I am in debt $600 for medical expenses, plus more tomorrow when I go back for more blood tests.

Anyways skipping to the point, today I PM'd Mrs XXX and told her I was bummed out and I could use a friend to talk to, that I had a very rough day and could use a year, her response was dont be whiney I have problems of my own I dont want to hear this. Keep in mind that we have been friends for two or more years, and all of a sudden after my divorce we lose contact and every now and then talk on messenger, suddenily we are talking more often and then nothing. But anyways I am very hurt, I am always there for my friends when they need me, nor do I think of myself as a whiner, I just really needed someone from another perspeective to look at my problems.

Thankfully I had a wonderful person PM me when I posted that I was diabetic and she has sent me several very helpful links and personal advice, thank you hun you know who you are, I wasnt sure how you would feel about your name being posted but I really do appreciate you.

Anyways now I do feel like a whiner :p

I'm sorry to hear about your diabetes. :( I hope that things work out for you. As far as your "friend" goes, I know how it feels. I have a friend who doesn't think twice about calling me everytime he has a problem but the one time I needed to talk to someone he told me he was too busy and didn't care what I was going through. That right there opened my eyes and showed me just how selfish he really is. In the mean time I have found an excellent friend who really does care and is there to listen when I'm having a bad day. I think that you're better off without this "friend". For what its worth, I don't see it as whining. If we had to keep everything inside that bothered us we would explode! :o Sometimes it helps just to talk about it and get someone elses opinion about the situation and sometimes we just need to know that someone else cares. I've never had to deal with diabetes and I don't really know you, but I care for what its worth. ;) (((hugs)))

Find out the manufacturer of the medication, then go to the companies website. Most if not all major drug manufacturers have programs for people with low income or no insurance so they pay little or nothing for their medication.
Everybody needs to whine at some point or another...nothing stinks more than having a friend who thinks things are fine as long as they're the one doing the whining.

I don't know if they have told you yet, but the little test strips are what is actually expensive. I only know cause I'm on glucophage trying to get pregnant and so they have me testing 3 or 4 times a week just to make sure it doesn't dip too low. I know there are a lot of programs out there to help diabetics get their testing supplies cheaper. I don't know about pills/shots, I only know about the actual testing supplies. Be sure and tell them when they prescribe pills/shots to make sure they only prescribe something that has a generic equivilant. I really am beginning to think doctors get a cut from these companies if they prescribe one that doesn't have a generic cause I have one doctor that WILL NOT prescribe anything w/ a generic and I have to get the pharmacy to call and demand it from her cause my insurance only pays a certain amount for name brands. It's a pain in the ass!

I'm sorry about your not so friendly friend... that was really mean of her! You're not a whiner... or maybe we all are, cause I'd certainly be seeking a shoulder to cry on if I was dealing w/ what you're dealing w/. The ppl here are great listeners tho (well most of them), so keep your chin up... you have real friends here. (((((((hugz))))))))

On the part of your expenses... My DH gets his meds directly from the company. You might want to try www.helpingpatients.org My DH's doctor sent his paperwork in for him abd about a month later, the company had send a years supply of his diabetic meds to the dr's office.

{{{HUGS}}} Sorry about your friend :(

First of all, are you going to a private physician or to the health department? If you are going to the health department they can do the same tests and will charge you on a sliding scale.

Next, if you prefer your physician, you should be able to sign up to get your meds and supplies for free. Most pharmaceutical companies will help you out with lancets and strips. And, of course, the monitors are generally free.

Talk to your doctor about patient assistance. And check out the One Touch site. They give away everything but the strips but they might be able to help you out as well.

I started out at the Health Dept because I had females problems, while there I mentioned having to ALWAYS go to the bathroom, they did a urine dip and then I was sent to the Dr's office, I have already talked to the Health Dept and my Dr, they are going to give me samples of the medication until I can get some sort of insurance, but the diabetic testing supplies are all on me :( I have to test twice a day, no exceptions, the lancets are cheap, $9.00 for 100, the test strips are about $1 a piece
