I don't (and wouldn't want to) understand what makes parents do things like this

Kansas Man Accused Of Abandoning Son in Ottawa County
Wednesday August 04, 2004 12:50pm

Miami, OK (AP) - A Kansas man is accused of abandoning his 7-year-old autistic son in northeastern Oklahoma.

Jay Smith of Kansas City faces a felony charge of deserting a child under 10.

An Ottawa County woman found the 7-year-old boy standing on a bluff outside her home. Virgie Turner says she lured the boy away from the bluff by promising him a soft drink.

Turner says the boy told her his father was mad and had left him alone.

Smith was found trying to start a fire in underbrush about a mile-and-a-half from where the boy was found.

Ottawa County Undersheriff terry Durborow says Smith had weekend custody of the boy and had taken him camping and canoing on the Spring River.

That is so sad. I'm glad he was found safe though.

What's up with the man trying to start a fire? Souds like he may have some mental problems.

think about it.

-camping trip
-forest fire
-getting separated from a child who may very well not have been able to fend for himself in such an instance and playing up the role of a devastated parent.

this is a highly hinky situation, kids.

Drop the father off in the middle of the desert alone and with out supplies see how he fares.

what a *******!! sounds like thats exactly what he was planning..kills 2 birs with one stone though..3 actualy..1. gets to hurt the mother in the worst way pocssible if the boy had died 2. possibly collect on life insurance for the child and 3. get rid of a child he MIGHT consider expendable.
i gotta say i like the desert idea.. though leave him 5 days away from help, and leave him with only saline to drink,1 days worth..ie salt water. it tastes nasty as crap..and he'd be made thirstier ..in other words in misery until he died.
take care y'all
