OMG! I just got home from a horrible day at the hospital where my husband is a patient (no answers, waiting, surgery scheduled, etc)....to an email....From the girl I did the resume for. She had told another mutual acquaintance that I did her resume for her and she was sure that I would not mind doing one for the other girl! Im not as good of a friend as you guys all think, because right now Im clamping my fingers so tightly to keep from really going off. Ive just been buzzed by the friend (thank God for invisible messenger). I gotta go get something to eat (its after 9 pm, not ate since 1) and cool off.....HELP ME NOT SAY SOMETHING STUPID.

I just got buzzed again and asked if I would do it AGAIN! I told her $20 for first page and $40 for anything after that....Was that too rude?

Great Answer!

ITA! I don't think it was rude at all! Your time IS worth money and in this day and age, nothing is free! (except at the freebie forum lol)

Either she is nuts of she has a lot of balls, asking you to do her friends resume after interveiwing for the job you wanted. Now if she had said I am going to try to apply and go after it you might still be upset but not feel betrayed.

Hmmm, when I told her that first of all it would not be done for a while because I had some other stuff going on, the question was, "How long." I said, "At least 2 or 3 weeks because my husband was going to have surgery tomorrow (today now) and I would be busy taking care of him, unless she wanted to pay $20-$40 for having it done and I would make time to do it since I needed money from missing so much work---(LOL, I should have told her since I didn't get the job I was trying for), well, interest suddenly lost out. Wonder why?

Priority paperwork will cost her an extra $15.00 if she needs it within the next 96 hours. Sorry, no sooner.

I think you handled it gracefully and tactfully.

I hope today is better.

ok...mho..and you know how bad i am...tell you know who...to stop it. your not her personal resume maker. tell her (not nicely..not gently..she dont understand that) that you are begining to do CUSTOM TYPING AND RESUME work for people to supplement your income. then make up flyers, and post them around town. post it anywhere you think you could get business...high school and colleges are great. and if you know who gets mad at you..tell her it is a business..and no one gets ahead by doing everything free for thier friends. if i went and asked dave to work on my bravada....you can bet ill pay him, its too easy to take advantage of someone who is your friend.and even accidently it is hurtful. hope your day is better today. and things go better with ron.
catch you later...and rember...dont count sheep to sleep...count on the pigs...

I would speak up and tell her exactly how you feel...that she stole that job from you and it was disrespectful of her to even apply there. Write her an email and tell her, because if you don't tell her, she will never know. Don't sugar coated it, just spell it out to her. good luck

Just say NO! Your husband is in the hospital and you DON'T have time to do favors for people. Think of yourself.

Maybe you have discovered a new talent - seriously! Sounds like you have the ability to make really good resumes, something not everyone can do.(maybe helping her w/resume was a blessing in disguise!!??) Maybe when things settle down & DH is better, you could have a good self employment opportunity as another post suggested.

Just a scatter-brained idea but... maybe tell your "friend" who took your job that you're now considering writing resumes for income & ask if she'd mind writing a reference for you!

I agree with others, you handled the "referral" great by telling her you have fees. You might could add that yes, you're trying to start a small "resume service" and your fees are....

Good luck!

Thanks! It is an idea.....and one I should consider seriously. Over 15 years ago, I used to type college students term papers and 15 years ago, got $2.00 a page for already written out, all I had to do was type, and $5.00 per page for bibliographys, title pages, anything extra which I had to format. I do need to see if she will give me a letter of recommendation...and see what happens. I really need a job change...that gives me more control of my life right now!
