I was at Family Dollar at the checkout when another employee escorts a woman right past me to the front, makes her drop an armload of stuff in a basket and tells here to get out and never come back or next time she'll call the police. She had been shoplifting, and according to the gal at checkout, she's in there all the time. She's said that's probably where half the missing stuff goes. I cannot believe how much stuff that woman tried to take! It was a whole lot!! And all she could say was "I didn't mean to." I'm thinking yeah, you didn't mean to get caught. Anyway, I see her walking down towards the street as I'm headed to my car, but as I get to the street, I don't see her anywhere. She must have gone into the the Auto Zone that was on the end of that strip mall. I considered going in and telling someone about this lady, because what were the chances she was there to buy something? But then I also think who am I to say anything, I don't know this woman, it's none of my business.

So I didn't go in there. I just drove right on by. I hope that if she was shoplifting in there , she got caught.

Darn, and I just remembered I saw to police officeres going into the Auto Zone as I went into Family Dollar. Too bad they weren't still there when I left.

Maybe she was trying to get caught....so the cops get called...so she goes to jail.....

Some people like those three meals and a cot...not to mention free jewelry(handcuffs) and clothing(jailsuit) .......lol

JMHO I don't think it is your place to say anything. Not to be rude but that is just nosey. Maybe the woman is a cleptomaniac, or like Mama says maybe she is trying to get caught.. There would be no reason for you to speak up, it really wasn't your business to begin with. ***Remember this is my opinion.***

My opinion is a little different lol. I think it is most definately her place to speak up. It is because of shoplifters that stores charge more for their items, and pay employees less. As a consumer, if I am paying more for stuff because of shoplifters then it is most definately my business to speak up.

I realize your intentions are good, but in this day and age, if you did something like that, you could get sued by the lady, or worse, shot or stabbed!

Perhaps if the police were going into the Auto Zone....the employees saw her, and called them. Most likely, if she had stolen many times before in the dollar store, they alerted the other stores to keep an eye out for her. We used to do that in the mall i worked at.

and if she is a cleptomaniac, she needs to be caught and treated or helped before she really gets into serious trouble.

Not to be rude or anything. But in my opinion, this attitude is what is wrong with this country. No-one wants to get involved. Shoplifting, while it may seem like a victimless crime affects us all. We all pay higher prices to cover for the store's losses.

Getting involved may come at a price, but not getting involved is the reason, when the police show up to a crime scene where a woman has been killed by her husband/boyfriend all the neighbors say Well, we heard them fighting all the time, but we didn't want to get involved.

ITA! I would have walked right in to Auto Zone and let them know what you had seen in the other store so that they could keep an eye on her. You don't have to say it loud enough for the whole store to hear or even for her to hear as far as that goes. :)

I saw a woman on Sunday stealing from Target. I went to the front and told the manager, she got arrested and off to jail. The manager thanked me for doing the right thing.
Another lady heard what I did and told me I had no right and started cussing at me, I caught the manager's eye and motioned for him to call the police back in, he did and I had the woman arrested for verbal assault.
Then I went to Walgreens and saw another person stealing, and yes I allerted the manager.
If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.
I am tired of paying more because of theives. If everyone did the right thing and turn in those they see stealing, maybe they would learn. But IT TAKES EVERYONE TO DO THE RIGHT THING, and if you're not, you are no better than the theives.

:o What has this world become? If I witnessed a shoplifter in the progress of a crime I would report it but I would not go to another store and tell them she had been kicked out for another store for possible shoplifting, unless you have absolute proof that is called SLANDER and you can sued.

That is what I was trying to say. If you see it happening that is one thing but to just follow the woman into stires and say hey she stole from the other store over there, well to me that isn't right. I agree I am tired of paying the higher prices, but I disagree with the OP on wanting to go into the store she didn't see her steal anything from. Hope that came out right LOL.

Here in Texas Verbal Assualt is a fine, $250 the first time, $300 the second and third, fourth time is a night in jail.

But I am not afraid, I will stand up for myself and family and stop the wrong do'ers anyway I can.

Heck, here in Texas, you can be arrested for verbal assault, if you're wearing a T-shirt, with words on it that, someone finds offensive. There was a kid in Ft, Worth, arrested while shopping in a grocery store, with his mother, because he was wearing a shirt that said, "F--K You!", and some old lady called the sherriff on him!

shoplifting in target or walmart is just plain stupid anyway. you WILL get caught, they have camera's everywhere and they are so accurate they can read the tiime on your watch. plus, they have plain clothes fake shoppers watching all the time.

She did see it. She watched the worker at the other store bring the woman to the front, make her put down the things and escort her out. The woman then went into another store. More than likely she was going to try and steal from there too. Evidentally (sp?) she didn't have any money or she wouldn't have been stealing from the other store. I would have went into the other store and said "Hey, you might want to keep an eye on her because she was just escorted out of (store name) for shoplifting". Just so they know and can keep an eye on her. No harm done there. JMO

Just a side note here... people sometimes do shoplift even when they have enough money to buy the item. So this shoplifter could have had enough money. Pretty incredible isn't it?

several years ago, i worked in the shoe dept. of a local retail store. i saw a man stealing a pair of work boots, and alerted security. the man was caught, and taken to the office to wait for police. i had to go along since i reported it, and it was my merchandise. security asked me how much the boots were, i told him $29.99........the shoplifter says ''well hell...i have that much on me" and proceedes to take the money out of his wallet to pay me! lol...i guess he thought we would let him go since he was willing to pay after getting caught! dumb *ss
