Had the day from hell yesterday, went to the doc got crappy news. Had to run supplies into work, bunch of the regulars are there so I sit & have a couple of drinks with them. Don't know what was said but one of the regulars & some guy get into a mouth battle, regular leaves, guy goes outside, comes back in BLEEDING. Says he was hit by the regular, starts yelling at us all, my boss included, cops get called etc etc. I look at my arms. I have this guys BLOOD on me. I get upset, I have two open cuts on my hands & some strangers BLOOD on me. Call a "friend" of mine (who works in the health feild), she tells me not to worry & thinks it's FUNNY I was upset about having some guy that I don't know's blood on me. (he knows the bartender, she tells me he doesn't have anything but still) Go home tell hubby, he laughs too. WTF? I really don't think I am stupid for being upset by it.

The two of them (hubby & my [so-called]"friend") are finding it quite amusing that I was upset by it, acting like I was stupid by getting upset (wonder how either of them would have felt if it was them..)

should of asked your hubby just how much would he laugh if that guy did have something and you and him got it, that type of thing is far from funny and I surely hope that you are ok. Hugs!! Some people just don't realize how dangerous some things can actually be.

I would have been upset too... but I do know through a cousins vast experience as an ER nurse that you are going to be ok. She gets pricked so many times while trying to work w/ combative patients, I really hated it at first but nothing has ever come of it. They do put her on preventative medication, but even if she didn't have the meds they say the chance of her contracting anything is less than 1%... I assure you tho, she does panic every time it happens, so your hubby and friend are wrong to be laughing at you cause I know from seeing it happen that even ppl in the medical field panic when these things happen.

I remember when I used to work with little kids in preschool (this was over 10 years ago). I would be VERY careful when bandaging cuts or whatever...it just makes sense to be careful.

Maybe if people took more care, things would be safer....

I sure hope that "friend" of yours isn't a friend any longer. I know she wouldn't be after I gave her about 10 pieces of my mind.
I'd get tested, I don't want to scare you, but .... Wait, yes I do. It's not something to play with and if more people were scared (particularly your idiotic "friend" and needs a smack husband) diseases wouldn't be spread so easily.
AIDS is ONE HUNDRED PERCENT lethal, there is no cure. It is not something to mess around with. I'd never take someone else's word on whether a stranger has it or not.

You should not feel stupid! I worked at a Casino and a coworker and I went to the little liquor/convience store owned by the casino on our break to get some snacks. I got some prepackaged food and she got a icecream cone. As we were walking back to the office she said there is something in my icecream. Then she said maybe it is nothing, she kept eating it. (it was 110' that day) Then she said "OMGsh it tastes like blood!!" I looked at her ice cream and it did look kinda like blood. We went right back over to the store to ask the girls working behind the counter what was in the ice cream and before we even ask her anything we noticed bleeding sores on the girls knuckles. (Why she would prepare food is beyond me, GROSS!!!) My coworker went straight to management and told them what happened. They had the girl reassigned duties and told her she could not work in the snack shop with open wounds. The casino had to pay (legally) for my coworker to be tested 3 times to make sure she is okay. They can not test right away as if you were infected with something it would take awhile for it to show up in your blood I think my coworker had to wait three months for the first test and then be tested six month after that and then a year after that. I don't work there and don't talk to my excoworker any more but after her first test she was okay. I hope nothing ever showed up as she was pretty scared.

Good luck to you. Since it is where you work you should check into the company policies, they may be required by law to pay for your testing. This is no "little" thing. There are some serious risks involved as you had open wounds. Your worry is valid. You are probably okay but you are smart to be worried and you should make sure you are safe. I can't believe they would make you feel dumb. They are dumb to not realize this could be a very real life and death situation.
