We had to go food shopping. So when we were nearly done they announced they cannot take anything but cash!!! ARGGG! We always pay with debit or credit. So we had to leave the food and go to another store and re-shop. We wasted an hour in that store. I had to buy a lot of overpriced stuff at the second food store because I just had to get it done today.
They lost a lot of business this afternoon. I guess their computers or something "went down."
I hate food shopping......

Oh man that would suck. They didnt have an atm machine close by that would have saved you more time and money? Grocery shopping is a huge ordeal for me and Im not exaggerating..... usually 2 hours in Krogers for me.... :( With a family of seven to feed, I nit pick and compare and cut ads and coupons, the whole nine yards.... so that woulda ticked me off too.

Was it Aldis or Sav-A-Lot? I know they ONLY take the food stamp cards, NO credit/debit cards at all. The Piggly Wiggly and Houchins didnt take credit/debit cards until the food stamps went to the cards.

Our Sav A Lot takes the Credit /Debit card..

The Aldis in Springfield, IL takes debit/credit cards. I dont go there often, but I have used it a few times. They started that a few years ago.

WinCo here in California only takes cash and checks. I didn't find out until their grand opening. I had my hubby go to an atm and get some cash out. Since then I used a check. But we don't shop there anymore even though their prices are excellent. The last time we went their floors were filty and we found rotten produce. All the oranges were rotten. Apparently they neglected to do the cleaning for that week.

divine what store did you go to??? i have never had a problem with shoprite... although if the comps went down... then well confusion ensues... i would have made them give me a discount voucher for my time wasted and for the inability to pay with debit or credit card! infact call the manager and try!!! if that doesnt work call the reginal offices!
GL!

It was Shoprite right near my house...we were just exhausted from other activities yesterday and to have to leave mid-shopping was awful. I have no idea if the store has an ATM. I don't think so.
The manager was in a frenzy directing people to different checkouts. We just walked out leaving 2 nearly full carts.
I don't blame them, sometimes the computers go down. It was just frustrating. We had to go to Stop and Shop which is more expensive and has less on sale.

It happened at our WalMart about a week or so ago. All of the computers were having problems reading the debit and credit cards. Since their checks also have to go through and be checked as well, nothing but cash would be accepted.
Don't think that the store is not cringing when they have to report something like that. It costs them big bucks when their computers quit working. You walked out and probably more than half of the people in the store did as well.
