I will try to be tactful here, as I know there are under 18 years olds on these boards. Heard on my local news tonight that a Yellow Labrador who was part of a "prison dog" program at Ross Correctional in Ohio had been _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
(fill in the blanks) abused by two of the prisoners. That is just sick, sick, sick!!!!

The prison dog program is in almost every prison here in Ohio. The prisoners train the dogs to be helping hand dogs for disabled people. It has been very successful, and it is very hard to get into the program and be one of the prisoners who actually gets to train the dogs. The dogs and the trainers all live in a dorm together. How this could happen, I just don't know, but a vet said the dog HAD been abused.

I cannot even understand how they could do that to a poor dog or how that dog didnt bite their ****'s off. Hopefully they'll be watching the inmates and animals more closely now. :(

In my opinion, just shoot the guys that did it. If they abuse an animal, they'd do it to a person, too......

So sad....that poor dog. Counselors hear stuff like this pretty regularly, esp. w/ppl who are lonely & deprived in that way. But this is NOT an excuse. It's very pitiful for those animals & no excuse. My sister trains therapy dogs for hospitals & individuals. The dogs that make it into the training programs are usually the sweetest & most personable, caring ones there is. They certainly don't deserve to be abused in any way.
I must say, the prison ppl., in my opinion should have known to watch for this, with the ppl they're dealing with. It's not that uncommon, wish it never happened, but that's not reality. I hope they removed the dog from the program, or did something to help it...they definately need to watch more carefully. Very, very heartbreaking.

I agree 100%
The kind of freaks that would do this could surely NOT be any benefit to society in any way.
Yeah... I hope someone, like the aspca, sues them or something... I mean crap, you wouldn't leave a child alone to sleep in cells with prisoners, why would you leave a helpless animal ???
Yeah, this makes me sick, mad and several other negative things, including very sad.  :(
