Dear christinate,
I will bid on this tube if you mail UPS for actual shipping cost and not hike the price of shipping to make a few extra bucks
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I weighed the package exactly 22lbs and charged $2.00 over for handling to buy a box for it (I'm sending it USPS Priority Mail). Never have I tried to make money off of shipping.
The shipping calculator does the rest - GEESH - some people!
Just had to vent.........

Did you let her know what you just had here? That you needed to add on for the box?

Here was my response:
It is shipped USPS Priority Mail. I don't know what their charges are. I just put in what the weight is and add $1 or $2 to buy the box to ship it.
If you want to bid and win, I will ship it UPS, if you desire.
I do though do not appreciate the rude comments made about me "hiking up the price of shipping to make a few bucks", as I never have and I despise those people. I pay whatever that amount is that pops up on the shipping calculator to ship to you minus $2.00 (which I pay for the box) - so, I am not making ANY money.
I fully go out of my way to save people a few bucks.

Heck tell them the weight of the box and if they can find a cheaper way to send it than the price you are quoting, then they shouldn't bid. Shipping is not cheap.
I think that your e-mail is right on target. Bid if you can afford the shipping and if not, don't bid.

geez. Your email sounded good :) besides why not add for packaging when needed.

S/h is not cheap. Some wanted these candles I had for 3.00 and the s/h was 7.20. The candles was new and the tag is on the box they were 14.99. So it was still a good deal. But yes they have the option to say no I don't want it if it is being sold. And if it is a action then stop bidding if you can't pay it plus the s/h.
Boxes are not free. I try to use what I have around the house but heck sometime I run out,

These people who complain about shipping make me laugh. Do they ever order from non-Ebay sites? I hate paying shipping, too, but it is what you do when you don't physically go to the store. I bought our ds 2 pairs of pants from LLBEAN recently. The shipping was a good 6 bucks. What can you do?

I HATE e-mails from people who just about demand that you ship to them a different way then what you specified. I think your e-mail sounded good, I may not have been as nice about it LOL
I had an auction up a few weeks ago and I didn't specify shipping, but stated that they could e-mail me for the cost... some lady won it (she never e-mailed me b4 bidding) and then demanded that I mail it a certain way... not gonna happen! LOL

If you ship priority, I am curious why you do not request free shipping supplies including boxes from the usps site? I would not be rude like that lady is but I'd be wondering why I had to pay for a box that should be free as well. I am tired of people inflating their shipping prices on ebay all the time too-its really a shame.

The shipping boxes aren't that big, perhaps she needed one that was a larger size? After all the weight was 22lbs. I hardly think that adding $2 is inflating a shipping price. especially since it cost more than that in gas to go buy the box... and I can tell you that boxes cost more than $2, so it sounds to me like the buyer is getting a heck of a deal.
I get tired of buyers who complain about shipping all the time. I do not agree with sellers who do inflate the costs, BUT the buyers have every right in the world to not buy the item if they don't agree with the shipping price.

I only ship USPS priority mail and I charge $1 for small items and $2 for larger items over the shipping costs. I always add the shipping calculator to the auction that way they know how much it is.

I looked on the USPS website and I couldn't find the supplies...is it something that comes up after you register with them?

I also hate it when these people write me emails like that!!! I use the calculator usually also, but if you can not afford the shipping ( without inflation) don't bid!! ZAlso I gpt an email asking me to relist because they missed the auction end, fine, but that was days ago and still no friggin bid, now it looks as though I will have to pay 2 times listing fees!!!

I think that was a well phrased response. I've gotten a few rude emails like that and I just delete most of them. If someone asks nicely if I'll ship a different method, I usually will, but if they're rude about it, forget it!

Unfortunately, There are alot of people that do raise the price on the shipping just to make an extra buck. It has happened to me in the past.

thats why if the shipping isn't listed, or i dont' get something from the seller before auction end, telling me EXACT shpping, i won't bid. sometimes shipping makes it not worth the bargain you're getting on the item.. i've seen so many horror stories from shipping charges i want something telling me EXACTLY how much shipping is gonna be. and a dollar or 2 isn't a big deal for handling and having to go to the P.O. cause i know here, since the bombing in OKC you have to physically hand the package to the postal worker for it to be shipped. but like i said i want to know completely in advance.

I think your E-mail in reply was correct and the person who even considered telling you how to ship and on what term's is flat out wrong.
I am an ebay seller, I do include a S&H fee, until recent I rode the bus to get packages to the Post. So I think in that case, I shouldn't have to have pay the fare, which is why I did and continue to charge a S&H fee, I often have to go to 2 different Post Offices, really one won't ake more than 5 boxes/ big Envies per day, no kidding.
So, if those were your term's, I think you are right.
I also have a note on my ebay item's, not here, I will not dicker the S&H charge, some people charge $6.00 and way up!!!
I am with you!!!

Thanks for all the responses.
She didn't win anyways ;)
But the thing about it was the tube was so big, that Priority Mail didn't have a box big enough. So, I called UHaul and they were out of the size I needed
So, I called the post office and talked to them, and they told me I could wrap it up in a garbage bag (yes, I said garbage bag) as long as it is not loose.
So, I wrapped it in a trash compactor bag (they are stronger) and wrapped another, regular black bag around it. It didn't look as bad as I thought it would, but I am still going to email the winner and explain my mailing tactics :D

Wow, a garbage bag? lol, never heard of shipping stuff by wrapping it in a garbage bag before. That's different. At least she didn't win- who knows if she would have had more problems with you. Some people...
