LOGANVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- The body of a baby boy has been found wrapped in a bag used for biohazardous waste.

The baby, which weighed about five pounds, was found Sunday along a narrow residential road in unincorporated Walton County near Loganville High School.

The boy was fully developed and may have been a full-term birth or close to it, authorities said. The body had been wrapped along with the placenta in a plastic Kmart bag and then placed inside a red biohazard bag.

Walton County Sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Johnson said authorities hope the biohazard bag will yield clues in the case.

"It's not one of those everyday things that people have around," Johnson said. "You may have access to it if you're in the medical field or in law enforcement or something specific like that." The body may have been left at the location as early as Friday, authorities said.

The case is being treated as a homicide until an autopsy reveals the cause of death.

That is just sad. I wonder if Georgia has a safe haven law?

Would a high school possibly have one of those bags like in the "nurses stations"? I noticed it was close by, That might explain some of it. (In no way am I saying that every teenage pregnant mother would do this)

That's really awful. Hopefully they find the person who did it.. Some people are so irresponsible when there are plenty of other choices out there besides killing their own child.

They very well may have some at the nurses office. You have to be very careful with blood and at times, blood is shed at any school. I am sure that they have sharps containers and they have to be placed in biohazard bags when filled, at least they do at the hospital where I work.

This past week we had a baby that was in a shoe box. Someone called the local fire department to tell them where to find it. Now the authorities are making a big deal about finding the mother (for medical reasons of course) instead of being grateful that the baby wasn't "disposed of" by the mother. Sometimes you should just accept things and not ask for more.

wow, so sad. I wonder what a "mother" is thinking when she disposes of her child,or just dumps it.
