Texas Woman Finds Son, 6, Dead in Oven
BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - The body of a 6-year-old boy was found in an oven at his home Friday, and his mother's boyfriend was charged with capital murder.
The suspect, Kenneth Pierott, 27, previously had been found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 1996 slaying of his handicapped sister.
Pierott was arraigned and jailed Friday night in the death of Tre-Deven Odoms.
The child's mother, Kathy Jo Odoms, found her son's body in the oven Friday morning, Justice of the Peace Paul Brown said. The burners on the stovetop were turned on, the oven was not, he said.
The boy had no visible injuries, Brown said. Autopsy results were expected Monday.
Odoms told police she woke up Friday morning because she was hot and smelled gas, The Beaumont Enterprise reported in its online edition Friday. She found the burners were on and turned them off. She discovered the boy's body after Pierott left the house.
Pierott spent six months in state mental hospitals beginning in 1998, after he was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the December 1996 beating death of his 25-year-old sister, who had cerebral palsy.
Court documents obtained by the Enterprise show Pierott hit his sister in the head with a metal dumbbell. He was later diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.

Why on earth would anyone date a person who was not convicted of a previous murder because they were thought to be insain??
My prayers go out to this woman and her family. :(
I hope they fry the boyfriend!

Another sickening and tragic headline involving a child...my Lord what is this world coming to?? I can't imagine dating someone with that kind of history, this is so sad and I just feel sick when I hear these awful events. I don't care what kind of mental illness he had, he should FRY. I hope their will be some justice in the case, I am sick to death of hearing about these sickos getting away with murder.

This is so sad. How can someone knowingly hurt a child? I have 6 kids and have been pushed to the breaking point alot, but to kill or hurt an innocent child? That is just unforgiveable to me. I have to think that this mother knew nothing about his past, otherwise how could she have let him anywhere near her child?

What a HORRIBLE story. I have a six year old also... that poor woman.
I suppose she loved the man. She wanted to believe he was a good person and maybe had problems in the past (his mental illness defense). We all say how can you subject your child to such a situation, but did the woman really think he was capable of murder? (I am not in her mind so I don't know where she was coming from)
In the animal kingdom, it is very common for the males to kill the offspring of other men.
No matter what the whys, a small innocent child is dead. Keep this guy locked up for ever.

my mother went out with a guy for about a year when I was little {i was 10} She knew he was in prison for 3 years but didnt know why, when she found out what he did she left him. {he had killed a guy}
I know why she stayed for so long with him, it was cause she didnt want to be left alone. As I am sure so many of these women feel when they let someone like this in their lives, even with kids. it is sad. It isnt always the adults that get hurt, so many of those kids that are put in this postion are the ones that get hurt, physicaly or emotionaly...or worse.

OMG!!!!!!!!!! how dare he, do a child like that, and leave him for his mother to find. he is a seriously sick man. he must have really hated her, to hurt her that bad. no don't kill him, put in general population in jail, they won't kill him, they will beat him everyday, and make him wish he was dead. i can't imagime the horror of finding him. i feel so sad for the mother and her family. my heart and sympathies go out to them. God took his baby home.:(

She's lucky that she didn't end up dead or that he didn't decide to strike a match and see what would happen. There are far too many people who should be in care that are out on the streets. I can't imagine letting a person out of a mental health facility knowing that he had committed murder before and that he had a history of schizophrenia. This is a very hard illness to control even for the most disciplined person. These people see things that aren't there and hear voices and have a hard time telling reality from fantasy. I would like to go after the parol board who let him out. Even if they had let him out he should have been in a controlled enviroment like a group home. This is not the sort of person you let out to take care of themselves.

Oh geeeeeeez!!!!! Another not guilty by reason of insanity & spent 6 months in a mental hospital. Now, that's what I call punishment. Six months of hard time sitting in a mental hospital.   They should have sent him to Disney Land.... He'll spend 6 month or less in a mental hospital and get found not guilty by reason of insanity for killing this little boy.
This whole mental illness BS is getting old.... <shaking head> I better shut up before I p*ss everyone off with my outlook on mental illness.
.....And, If someone were to killed this man or these other worthless arse people who murder their children. Do you think they can play insanity game & get away with it? Not likely, If one was to take these worthless arse peoples lives they would get life in prison or even the death penalty.

it must be horrible to find your child regardless dead. their families are in my thoughts. as well, it seems societies' tendency to avoid mental illness will not change. this man was sick and needed help and they left him to his own devices. I am sure she did not know of his illness or if she did the severity of it. mental illnesses such as schizophrenia are not what is portrayed on lifetime movies but something much more serious, dangerous, and sad. i hope he gets help within an inclosed institution but the truth is he probably won't
PS...FYI...mental illness is not bs...taking a course or two might educate everyone...but that is why people think of many things in such a way...IGNORANCE....fyi...definition for ignorance....lack of knowledge via education.

My mom married a man, they are divorced now, but he had this same mental illness and her family never said a word and she didn't know, then when she found out, was when he had a fall back, he had done quite well and never really gave off clues till he all of a sudden got violent one day, she called his family, in Michigan, she lived in Iowa at the time, and they admitted they knew but didn't want to upset him, LAME!! He tried to shoot my mother, so I think that if these people can't be trusted not to be violent, then put them somewhere that innocent people will not get hurt by them. I feel so badly for this mother.:(

If you read my reply, you would understand why I said, mental illness BS. It is BS...
I nor anyone else needs you to educate us on meanings of words. So, there is no need for you to act like we are school children and supply us with the meaning of a word we learned in kindergarten. Educate your own self, it may be benificial for you.

I guess I am just too simple to understand how anyone could hurt a child. If I had a mental illness that would cause me to hurt someone I believe I would have to kill myself in order to prevent it. Just tonight at the park I stupidly forgot to strap Lexie in her stroller and she fell out on the ground face first...I came home and threw up because I am that upset over it.

I'm mentally ill and couldn't agree more. I think people use that defense WAY too much. There are bonafide cases out there where people use that defense and are committed to institutions. I don't think they should be let out for heinous crimes.

there is one good thing about the men and women in prison....fark with a kid and you will get what you deserve. my cousin was a guard and had often spoken with prisioners and all said pretty much the same thing....their childhood was screwed up and that is why they ended up where they were. so the general idea is...screw up a kid and we'll screw you up! no such thing as insanity that is cured in 6 mo. just bloody discusting. that is a case where lynching should be legal...but that is the mom in me talking i guess.

I can't believe anyone could do this to a child, this is so sad. My son is my life and I would have gone crazy, no telling what I would have done when I found out who done it. I agree with you all this guy should fry.
