:( She is an 11 yr old Pekinese. She did this once before but stopped soon after. We are just getting ready to re carpet the whole house. What in the world can I do? I love her to pieces but I can't tolerate this!!

This may sound crazy - but try anti-depressants! I had the same problem with one of my cats & my vet recommended kittie-prozac! He told me there had been great success with tiny doses of this stuff for animals with behavior problems & that tons of pets were saved from "The Shot" because of it. My cat ended up stopping on her own (I found out she taught herself to pee in the toilet (LOL!) & used my bed or the floor only when I left the seat down ROFL!!) If she were to start up again, though I'd make a beeline to the vet for the pills. Talk to your vet & I really hope this works for you - it's a shame to lose a great pet over stuff like this!

Awww I'm so sorry! The poor puppy! The only thing I can think of is to put down those puppy pads. Maybe shes doing it because shes getting old and her bladder is week. She might even have a bladder infection, I would take her to the vet. Please keep us updated and good luck to you!
Hope you have a Happy Easter! :)

She might even have a bladder infection,
That's what I was thinking, when my cat started doing that it was because she had a bladder infection. I hope you figure out why she is doing it before you get the new carpet.

You could buy doggie diapers they are made with denium and you can put a maxi pad in them if they aren't thick enough...I used them for a dog we had that was in heat...you can buy them at pet smart.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I will have her checked at the vets but may have to keep her in the garage at night now with her bed. She has a doggy door in the house so its not like she cant go out whenever she wants! I know there is NO WAY I am trying doggy diapers!
Hubby says we have to put her down if it doesn't get better so I have to figure out something.

Can you keep her outdoors?

There is definately something wrong with the dog. She needs to see her doctor as soon as possible. If this is a new behavior then I would tend to think that she is ill.

I also was going to say there may be a bladder infection or a UTI. Make sure you get her to the vet as soon as you can. This could just be something an antibiotic clears right up! Keep us posted!

I would take her to the vet...and I would put my hubby down if he ever suggested putting my dog down for peeing.

I've learned over the last few yrs that anytime a normally trained pet starts using the potty all over the house it's a sign of sickness. Your poor puppy needs to go to the vet soon. It could be something as simple as a uti but it could also indicate a more serious problem. Keep us up to date on how it goes.

Well...my 14 year old cocker has been peeing on our new carpet almost since we moved into this house. She has a doggy door and is just being lazy.
She is sick and, frankly, we didn't think she would survive the move. (She was diagnosed with melanoma in her mouth almost two years ago. Only 10% of dogs survive the firs 6 months. She is definitely our miracle dog.)
I have watched her walk right by an open door and go to the carpet. We have treated the areas with all the right stuff. She is just lazy or she is punishing us.
Either way...she has been completely checked out by the vet who marvels that she is still alive. Does she have a UTI..not at all! She is just being obstinate. As a result...she is now locked in the service porch during the day when we are gone and at night when we go to bed. (She can get to the garage from the service porch and from there outside to the back yard.) I'm not about to euthanize her until she is no longer eating and in obvious pain.
Hubby and I just figure that we will have to replace the carpet when she dies.
But...my point is that not all dogs have infections when they start peeing on the carpet. Sometimes they are just acting out!~~
Edited to add: I want to note that we love that dumb dog and she is more than just a pet to us. Her behavior is frustrating because our home is brand new, as is the carpet. But whatcha going to do? She is part of the family. She won't be with us that much longer. Even though her current medical treatment is expensive, we wouldn't consider doing anything else unless she was suffering.

I have a peke as well. She is a year and a half. When I first got her she nearly DIED from a kidney infection. I didn't notice change in her behavior because she was still a puppy, and never changed how much she pottied. However, when she got fixed she got ill and it was discovered that she had a UTI that had turned into a kidney infection. The UTI was probably there when I first got her.
Like I said, 800 dollars and nearly dying later, we finally got it out of her. Just two months ago she got another one. Basically there is nothing I can do, she will just be prone to them. This one got kicked out of her for around 200 bucks (and 6 weeks of antibiotics).
It is likely when she gets older she will loose bladder control. She already has trouble holding it any longer than about three hours. Will I put "diapers" on her, yes...if I need to. I wouldn't put her to sleep unless she was in pain from everything.
See, it was my decision to get a pet, and that makes it my responsibility. If it ever got to the point where it would cost me thousands and thousands of dollars I may make that tough decision. However, I wouldn't put her to sleep to avoid inconvience.
I had a customer at work tell me "why don't you just put her down and get a new puppy, I would." Over a kidney infection! I don't get some people.
And by the way, not meant as an attack. It just got me going/upset 'cause my poor baby has so many problems.

If a customer had told me to put my dog down because of a kidney infection I would have told the customer, why don't we put you down when you get a cold! Some people just don't get it.

My cat started going the bathroom all over the house and when we took her in she ended up being diabetic and we were told by the vet that dogs/cats let us know they're sick by doing something like this so that they can get our attention.
I don't think that there would be a big difference dog/cat-wise, so please go get your pup checked out. My cat would have ended up in kidney failure from her diabetes if we hadn't taken her in when we did.

Believe me... I work as a teller in a small bank. I would have gotten fired probably. But believe you me, my fellow workers got my butt out of the room as quickly as possible and made me calm down.
I just dont' get people. She's my baby. The first year it cost so much because they didnt' know what was wrong. A lot of it they did for free (she had to stay at the vets for three days, xrays,etc.). But she had to have continuous water added and special food, etc.
This last time we caught it early. Of the 200ish dollars I'd say 120 of it was simply rechecking her urine until it was all clear. At least it is nothing I did. They say I can't prevent it. I'll probably just pay the 25 dollars and get her checked every six months to be safe.

My parents had the same problem with their poodle when he was about 11-12. It went on for a few years. Eventually they had to put him to sleep after much damage.(ruining leather chairs, wood floors....)
I hope you find the answer about your dog.

The Vet checked her out (blood work etc) and found nothing except a small ear infection. He says she is old for a peke and I may have to deal with it. I think she just has an ATTITUDE when I cant spend time with her and is acting out. From now on she sleeps in the garage and I will watch, if she pees during the day I will have to figure something else out.

It is nice to know that there is nothing medically wrong with her but still a pain with the peeing for attention!! Good luck in whatever you figure out with her.

I have a 10 year old rottweiler with hip dysplasia and he can barely get up. He sometimes pees several times a day in the house.
I don't know what I would do if I didn't have my Bissell Spotlifter!! :D :D
It works awesome..it sucks up a whole puddle..what use to take me several towels to soak up.
I think its around $35-40, but totally worth it.
