Trucks and Other Traffic

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass
through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through
the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
Isa. 43:2, NIV.
---------------------
We lived for a short time on one of the busiest roads in Brisbane,
where the traffic never stopped. There were countless traffic light
intersections. One such intersection was near our home. Because of the
continuous traffic, I always drove into our driveway as quickly as
possible-I didn't want to cause a nose-to-tail accident by slowness on
my part.

One afternoon I was a little annoyed to see a small parked utility
truck partially blocking our driveway so that I had to swerve out and
around it to get in. After I'd put my car away, the driver was still
sitting in his truck, engine running. I realized something wasn't
right.

"How long has that truck been there?" I asked my mother-in-law, who was
staying with us at the time.

"About 20 minutes," she said.

As I walked out to the footpath, the driver slowly turned and looked at
me with overbright eyes. What was I to do? My husband was still at
work, so I ran next door to my neighbor, Bill. When he opened the cab
door, he noticed that the driver had a Medic Alert wristband on.

We called an ambulance for "our" truck driver, who was by then in a
diabetic coma, and they rushed him to the hospital. The police came to
park and lock the truck on a vacant block of land nearby until the
owner's immediate family could take possession of it.

The driver's wife phoned later that evening to say thank you and to
report that her husband was going to be fine. He'd been driving home
from work and had thought he could make it home OK, even though he
wasn't feeling well.

I thought how similar my life is to that. Satan snares me so many times
when I think I'm doing OK. I pray there will be those along the way
willing to help and that I'll make it all the way safely home to
heaven.
