Are you swimming in the ocean in summer? Is it warm enough? We are planning a vacation and were wondering about it. PLMK and TIA!

I was born and raised in San Diego, and we always swam in the ocean all summer. It IS a little cold, but on a warm day (and most of them are!) I wouldn't say it was much worse than an unheated swimming pool. Enjoy your trip! I wish I was still there!

Yeah it depends on what you're used to. We visit in the summer from Phoenix, and I'm such a wimp that it's too cold for me to swim. I usually wade a bit though cuz you gotta go in the ocean. I've been to Lake Michigan (by Milwaukee and Chicago) and I think that's colder in the summer. YOu ocan check at:
http://scilib.ucsd.edu/sio/ocean/
and see the tide charts, photos, ocean temps (water temp 63.5 degrees when I checked at one station), beach info etc.
Have fun!

I hate the ocean, but when we went to the beach last summer it was okay. It's a bit cold sometimes but when your out in the sun it feels good.

I love the beach in the summer, but as a kid I even surfed in the winter time. But compared to the wooha's I see jumping in the ice water in Minnestota during the winter, the water at the beach is great. Where in Diego are you heading to?
I'm North of SD, but ppl swim in the ocean all year round. It is MUCH warmer than the Atlantic. We are having nice, warm (hot) days right now - so even if the water is a bit cool - it feels good, and you can always come out and warm up on the hot beach sand! =D
