I just need to know if anyone has had it so bad all over their whole body and did it make your skin discolored and bumpy like a rash. And if so did it go away and the discoloring too?
I have it so bad all over my whole body and face its really embarrassing when people stare at it cuz it looks nasty and all dark spots everywhere like a Dalmatian dog LOL I haven't gone to the doctor yet cuz i just got heath insurance.
But I mostly just wanna know if the discoloring/spots go away???
Thanks

My DD has it. When it gets really bad she turns a really nasty shade of red, her skin gets bumpy but thats from the skin gettin really dry and then it starts to crack. We have her on Elidel daily(2-3 times daily acctually ~ NOT cheap) and Desowen lotion (after baths when broke out bad). They are both prescriptions though. They also recommend over the counter lotions on top of those. Dont let them try to push Eucirin or Hydrocortison (sp?) off on ya though, if its as bad as it sounds, you need something with steriods straight off to get it under control, they will most likely give you a shot too. Protopica and Elidel are the best creams to get, and the DesOwen lotion is the best we have found for my DD. She has had it since she was born and the Drs kept sayin it was just dry skin but when it cracked and bled no matter how much lotion I put on her, they finally realized it was eczema. Anyway, to answer your question, once you start treating it, it does go away but it will continue to reaccur. Hope that helps some and sorry for the book. lol

My nephew has it something AWFUL! He is 2 1/2. The Elidel does NOTHING for him. HE was going to a gen practioner who putmy sister off and put her off giveing her this, that, and the other but mainly told her to give him Benedryl for the itching and Eucerin for the dryness.(he is on a Medical card instead of private ins) FINALLY he sent the poor baby to a dermatologist and this new guy is helping alot. He takes a bath in Cetaphil(sp) and takes some other prescription meds(I know one is a prescription hydrocortisone), and uses Aquaphor. If he gets hot, he gets itchy. If he gets around perfume(like at the fuenral home), he gets itchy. BUT in the summer, he gets better in the sunlight. We also suspect he has icthyosis, but the dermatologist hasnt mentioned it. She is going to bring it up at the next visit.

I have it really bad on my left foot. It used to itch so bad I would cry. I mean it is kind of hard to scratch a foot when it is already sensitive. Doc gave me a whole bag of Elidael samples and after about 2 months I do not itch anymore at all. I still have the rough dry-looking skin but the itch went away so I am happy with that.

Teenie has it on the palms of her hands, the bottom of her feet and her ankles and sometimes around her nose. The doctor just put her on a salve called CUTIVATE. It cleared the rash up around her nose within the day. Plus she also uses Eucerin lotion too.

Well, I had eczuma as a baby and it went away and I haven't had a problem with it until last june it started as a little rash on my arm. And I too would always get better in sunlight my skin gets so nice and clear in the summer time. My son also had it as a baby on his hands and face but it too went away.
In june when it started it spread on my arms and legs so I went to the doctor when I had insurance and she gave me some drug/pill and some cream they did nothing and I think made it worse cuz now it is everywhere. My arms, back and face are the worse. Like I said I look like a spotted dog LOL. I wanted to goto a dermo doctor but it was a 4 month waiting list and then I lost my insurance so it just got worse. I even have it too on the palm of my hands and bottom of my feet and my skin is so dry I have tried every lotion you can buy and nothing works. I even spend money on Proactiv thinking that might do something. And all the new drugs they have on the tv say for mild to moderate and this is major so I'm scared they won't work too.
My BIGGEST fear is that since it did such a bad discoloration to my skin that it isn't going to fade away and I'll look like this forever. Summer is almost here and I can't wear long sleeve shirts and pants forever.
So does anyone know if the color goes away?? I'm mixed black/white but I have a lighter skin tone and when I scar or anything It gets really, really dark so you can only imagine how this looks. It kinda is like I had really dark skin and now it is fading in places but not all the way done. :( Its just UGLY!

I have had it all my life. I have flare ups during stress! The only thing that gets rid of it for me is steriod creams. Right now my health insurance wont cover it so I am treating my hands with some cold tar ointment. It helps relieve the itching and redness some what but its not getting rid of it completely.
Yes, once you get it cleared up the discoloration will go away-at least it does for me.
HUGS!!!!!

I have 2 daughters that have it and see a dermatologist. We have tried everything, elidel, protopic, eucerin, you name it. We finally found thaty locoid works for them. It is a prescrip and we are on medicaid, but when they have flare ups it does wonders! They are both very pale like me so the coloring really stands out, but it DOES go away. I also have a neice who has it bad, like my sis had to put socks on her hands at night so she wouldn't scratch till she bled! They use something 3 times a day, plus lotions after baths/showers, etc. I hope you find something to help yours!!!

I feel bad for any kid having this! Its bad enough as an adult to control yourself from itching. I went to a Dermatologist last year who diagnosed me with Eczema for the first time in my life. The Dr said many people were getting it from the cold winter we had. I do notice a stress connection with flare-ups. My Dr gave me Clobetasol which, worked immediately!!!!!!!! Try and get to a Dermatologist as SOON as you can. Call around and find a Dr who will take you and explain that you currently have no health ins. and then ask him for samples of meds. Dr's get samples all the time and if you ask them they usually will share. As far as scarring, I have noticed a faint shadow where the rash was.

PS. If all else fails get some Cetaphil. That stuff is pure magic for skin irritations. Too bad you don't live near me. I just filled my script for two tubes of Clobetasol (only cost $5.00 for two tubes w/ins) I would share with ya!

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE COMMENTS AND I'M GLAD THAT THE COLORING DOES GO AWAY LOL
Something noone has mentioned so far is bubble bath and stuff. My 4 year old will break out really bad from even just one bubble bath. Anything with strong perfumes will make it worse. Don't use scented lotions or highly scented laundry soap. My dermotalogist said you don't have to go completely scent free ont he laundry stuff just stay away from strong scents.
It could be worth just going through your phone book and calling dermotologist offices and explaining your situation and asking for samples. I would definately make sure something works before buying the prescription. Some things work great for some people and some things don't.
