or about a missing person, would you take a lie detector test to prove you had nothing to do with it?

I was watching America's Most Wanted last night about a girl who is missing, her uncle has been accused of having something to do with it or knows about what happened to her. He says he doesn't but he won't take a test to prove it. I don't understand that. To me, that makes him look guilty. If you have nothing to hide, why not take the test?

The girls friends said the uncle would say dirty things to her about her body and was even talking to her about getting her started in the porn business. That's just wierd! Why would an uncle talk to a young girl like that?

Oh the day she went missing, he called her on her cell phone and left a message that said "Home Depot @ 3pm" or something like that. Her friend had checked her messages to see if they could get any clues as to where she was. He admits he went to Home Depot but he doesn't know what time he was there and says he didn't leave her a message.

So what would you do if your name was brought up in a case like this and you say you had nothing to do with it? Would you take the test or not?

I would take a lie detector test,if you didn't do anything, then you have nothing to hide. But some people say they have nothing to prove (meaning, shouldn't have to prove they didn't do anything),so would refuse to take one.

boy that stpry sounds pretty fishy. me personaly i would take the test because i'd be innocent, but some innocent people do refuse, they feel like it's innocent until proven guilty and un-fair to be asked to take a test when they have done nothing wrong. i know there are tons of people who have not been drinking but still re-fuse the breathalizer, wich i think now they have made it to wear if you refuse you are automaticaly guilty. there was also a guy hubby met that was in jail because he refused to sign his traffic ticket, because he said he was not speeding and felt that if he signed it that it was his acknoligment that it was true he was speeding. well they arrested him for refusing to sign the ticket.

For someone like him, Theres alot of things that point to him already. If A, He takes it and fails even though he's innocent, That'll be bad and B, Theres always the chance of them "doctoring" the questions to make him purposely fail sense it looks like they have the "purp" already.
If I was him i would take the test though.

Yeah, I guess that some would say that have nothing to prove because they know they didn't do it. But this guy just seems crazy or something. The way he would talk to her is just gross, he's her uncle! That's just freaky to me.

The guy that was talking to him offered to give him a test since he refused one with the police and he said no but that he might take one someday. That's just fishy to me. Why not take one now instead of letting everyone think that you're guilty? I just don't understand some people. lol

Good point freeby4me. Maybe that's what he's thinking too.

I can honestly say that I am not sure I would take one or not. My sister works in government law enforcement and she says that about 35% of the time the lie detectors are wrong, which is why they are not admissable in court. I think I would be too terrified that it would say I was lying when I wasn't.

I used to think I'd take one in a heartbeat if asked, but not so sure anymore.

I think I'd take one but I would insist on a "second opinion" in this case a second lie detector test. I get real nervous when questioned about important things and I would be afraid the test might get messed up. I wonder if you can choose your own person to do the test or if you have to use the police dept. one.

If I were him I'de do it, otherwise, of course fingers are going to point and say I was guilty. I get nervous also, I laugh when people ask me questions- got in trouble a few years ago for doing that when I was getting suspended. I'de think they would lock me up because I'm a nut job. So on second though, maybe I wouldn't.

Well... yes, I probably would... but on the other hand, I can't stand John Walsh because he's just like every other person in the media (aside from being the biased parent of a victim) and takes a very extreme (and sometimes over dramatized) stance of whichever side suits him best... I am sure there's quite a bit of this story you never heard.

Just my opinion, no offense intended!

From what I read and hear on the news, when you are all messed up on drugs and alcohol, you are usually in the company of liked minded pondscum. None of them know what each other looks like or cares. They are just satisfying an urge or selling their bodies for the next drug hit.

I would probably be so nervous that it wouldn't be accurate. People who are runners or people who play musical instruments that you have to blow into like a flute will produce inaccurate reading because they have weird breathing patterns from playing their instruments.

I would have to seriously consider it but I don't think I would agree to it.

I would refuse, they are not always accurate and once you fail one no one is going to believe you.
