It depends on whether it's used and how bad you want a warranty on it. XBoxes are decent systems (no better or worse than the other two as far as game play), but Microsoft gives consumers the shaft w/ the warranties. Manufacturer warranty is 90 days starting the moment it rolls off the assembly line... NOT the date of purchase. So if it's used or has been sitting on a shelf for a while (and most of them have been sitting there for a while now since they aren't flying off the shelves anymore), just be informed that you probably aren't going to have a warranty. Ppl can buy it anywhere they want, but I *never* recommend buying game systems anywhere but best buy. They sell extended warranties (that you can keep extending indefinitely... atleast at the best buy here) for 2 years. If you bring in a broken system, they give you a brand new one off the shelf. You can't beat that type of deal. If you just have the manufacturers warranty, you have to ship it off, wait forever for it to get fixed and shipped back and then hope it won't just break again in a few months. If you have no warranty, it can cost alot of money to have them fixed. When it comes to most electronics (but especially game systems), I only buy from Best Buy so I can get that warranty.

Well, at work (I work for Walmart, btw) we sell them for just under $180.00. It comes with one controller. Every once in a while, Xbox will put out a bundle package that comes with 1-3 games. Those usually come out around major holidays. They do have an online networking capability, but you must buy an adapter and subscribe to Xbox Live (not sure how much a monthly subscription is). They also have DVD playback capabilites, though you have to purchase the DVD playback kit (around $30.00). That's nearly all I know about them, but feel free to ask anymore questions. If I can't answer them, I'm sure I can find someone at work that can....

Thanks you two for your help. This doesn't sound like such a good deal after all now. I might have bought it if I hadn't of talked to yall about it.
Here is the one I was looking at had to say (sounds like a bad deal after all doesn't it?):
newly refurb xbox, never played with, in perfection condition, the whole set. one controller.
For DDR fans out there, don't settle for DDR ultramix's lame 20 songs, don't wait forever for xbox live to provide download and still they got nothing. Mine xbox system has hundreds of songs. Anything u see at a DDR arcade, you will find on my system, and mine still has way more.
you will get the standard DDR Ultramix game, plus hundreds of extra songs that you will never finish dancing to. Songs from all over the world, and all kinds of styles, euro mix, american mix, asian mix, ultra mix, all kinds of mix. Great! Great! Great! Nothing more to say.
you can also get a brand new dance pad for only $19 extra, still sealed in box, plus the original STAR WARS THE CLONE WARS & TETRIS WORLDS in DVD case for free.
you also get other great features such as:
zone free DVD player, mp3 player, dixv movie player and many more.
enjoy your new system.
note : xbox live is disabled, dont' bid on the item if you really need it.
will ship to Canado also.
the "buy it now" price is set to $269. As long as you bid up to $269, you will get a box with FREE SHIPPING, and FREE DANCE PAD.
i can also throw in more games as long as it fits. so winner send me request.
P.S. I also emailed the guy about the extra games he would add to the system that he mentioned in the auction and he said these are the ones I could pick from.
let me know what games u like. I have alot of them.
here is a good list to choose from
silent scope(full package), 007-everything or nothing, unreal2, hunter the reconning 1 & 2, top spin, true crimes street of LA, Grant theft Auto & Vice City, baldurs gate dark alliance 1 & 2, The simpson hit and run, espn basketball 2004, dead or alive 3, beach volleyball, Halo, timespliter 2, Retur of the King, Princer of Persia, Metal Gear Solid 2, Splintter Cell, Silent Hill2, Fatal Frame, Unreal champoinship, Soul Calibur 2, Outlaw Golf, Star Wars Knight of the old republic & Jedi Outcast, Hitman2, FIFA 2003, NBA lie 2003, 007 Nite fire & Agent under file, etc.
Please let me know if you still think this is a bad deal. Thanks a bunch BBS'ers :)

The only thing I would be leery about here is that the system has been refurbished. That means that something has messed up on it and it has been sent back to the manufacturer to be fixed. Like I said, a new system at Walmart is $180.00. I checked on ebay and the DDR Ultramix plus mat is $55.00 (buy it now price). I'm not going to tell you NOT to buy it, but I would be careful because the system is refurbished.

Agreed... you can always layaway games if you can't buy them up front. Or wait a few months for them to go down in price. I'd buy brand new (same price at best buy at wal-mart usually) and get one game at a time. We do and we already have more than we play, so it doesn't take long to get a collection going.

The newer ones have better hard drives. You can tell by the pattern on the disc tray. There are 3 different types. Here is a picture of them from oldest to newest.

Thanks everyone. I think I will just wait awhile longer before I get one. I mainly want it for the ddr, but I agree I do need a warranty. Sounds like they break to easy. Thanks again everyone! :)

Also if you buy used or from some place that refurbishes them, make sure you dont get a first generation box, you can tell by the tray that holds the disk, if its open its new, if its solid its old, the hard drives are bad and there is a lot of trouble with the old ones, they only play some of the games and you get a lot of read errors, you can go the www.xbox.com and go to the forums to read about this.
