My child is 11, I don't think the airplane theme is juvenile, but I'm not sure. I'm going to surprise him by redoing his room.

Not juvenile for an 11 year old but by the time he is 13 he will hate it. I think it is neat looking, but if you do not want to change it again in a few years, I'd go with something else. I have a 15 yr old son and no way would he like anything like this in his room. If your son is really into planes and stuff it is cool.

He says he would rather have the sports themed room, oh well, I liked the planes.

I've been toying with the idea for a few months about doing my 9 y/o's room in the solar system. painting the walls a dark blue, get a solar system boarder, get the glow in the dark stars and such from wally world and putting them up on his celing. matching curtains and bed linens if possible. (or something close to matching)

If he likes sports, just accessorize with sports items. As for the bedding,I would do solid colors...blue or red etc. Same with the walls. If you plaster it with sport stuff it will look gawdy,so if there is just accessories, you can change it. He's 11 so on the verge of preteen/puburty so his taste WILL change.

Oh and get him a cork board so he can hang pictures HE likes, and maybe a black ligh bulb in a night stand light,I did that for my daughter when she was 11 she thought it was the coolest thing and she will be 14 in a few days and still has it. lol

Two of my son's share a room together ages 13 and almost 9 (the 10th of this month) and we just moved into our new home in November, right now thier room is PINK...LOL But we were all discussing what kind of room they wanted, We talked about the sports theme and at first we were going to do that, But then they decided they wanted a Harley Davidson Room! So we are going to paint the wall's the Harley Davidson Orange, and then make two black stripes as the chair rail. Also going to put up (if i can find it) Harley Davidson boarder on top. I'm going to make black curtains and paint thier dressers black. Then get Harley Pictures for the wall's and put up shelves for thier Toy Harleys. I think for thier ages and since they share a room that would be cool.

How odd you should mention that - I was just at this website yesterday (looking for some different wall border), but they have two different motorcycle borders there:

try using solids and stripes in the colors of his favorite sport team.
ie:yankees navy blue and whte.. you can do so much with those colors.. and when he is a teen going through that teen angst phase... black will match!

Free4us Lakeside Collection has a very cool decorative border that has diffent motorcycles, with an American flag and Eagle in the backround. I tried to find it on their website but couldn't but if you have the catalog check it out or you can go to www.lakeside.com and order a catalog.
Vertigo, I think a sports theme would be one that he would be more likely to still want around in a few years. My 11 year old would rather have something like that.
