We took two of the cockers to be groomed today. The first time for one of them and she is skittish anyways but was especially nippy towards the groomer. I fully trust that she knew what she was doing because she works in our vets office but just never had to give one of our babies anything before to get groomed. We dropped her off and 9:00 this morning and DH gave her the pill because she wouldnt take it from the groomer. But when we picked her up at 4 she was still pretty out of it. Which confused me because the girl said she was coming out of it when she was still cutting her hair. and if she gave her a second dose she didnt ask or tell me about it. I didnt realize she was still out of it til we got to my sisters house because when we got there my son just picked her up and carried her out to the truck because he had missed her so much....LOL
anyways.. didnt mean to ramble. Just curious if anyone else had experience with having to do that before. Out of 5 cocker spaniels we had never had to do that and I guess it just bothered me.
oh and what she gave her was something called ace promazine (sp?) if anyone knows anything about that?
pics of my pooches just added:

My dads poodle has to be sedated, but heck it doesn't last long at all. He is usually all happy and chipper within an hour after he gets done. Might call and ask her if she sedated her twice or not.

I have six poodles and four of them have to be sedated just for the rip to the groomers and again once the groomer starts grooming them. I have never been concerned about it or had any problems with them being sedated. If you trust your groomer then I think your cocker will be fine. I've used the same groomer for years and trust her completely.

I have a Red Persian who has to be gassed every time she is shaved (at the vet's). She only allows my husband and I to brush her, but her fur gets so long, it mats. We have here shaved 3-4 times a year. She is usually ok by 5-7 when I take her in at 9. I'm not sure when they groom her exactly though, so I can't say how long the gas is present actually.

Thanks for the replies. This groomer is affiliated with our vet but this was the first time we used her to groom. She's pretty much just layin around right now. I called her to jump up in my lap but she couldnt even jump. :( Gonna be keeping a close eye on her tonight.

LOL..whenever I am in the tub it seems like all the dogs come in and want to jump in.... gotta make sure I keep the door shut or they are right there!
yep... we breed. Neither of the puppies had been to a groomer before and they are 8 months old. We had been cutting them ourselves. One is blonde and one is chocolate. We own both the parents and they are both black. We also own the grandmother on the mothers side and she is a parti color.
and YEAAAAAAAAA she is up and wanting to play a little bit now...still not as much energy as usual but she is getting there...
SIGHHHH

I have a chocolate (sevana) and a blone (Myra), I would call party because she has white socks and a white nose with freckles .Both will be coming into heat in June/July so we are going to mate Sevana with a Sabel color male, Myra with a chocolate. Hope they throw a few chocolate females and sabel (I'll keep a Sabel if we get lucky,if not i'll keep a chocolate)

Hi Kelly,
I don't loke the way this sounds. I have had Poodles and Cockers all my life and never have they needed to be drugged. I would talk to another groomer and let her meet with your dogs just to see how she is. The groomers that do my dog have muzzles for the dogs that nip or are aggresive. There would be heads rollong if I picked my dog up and it was lethargic for that long.
I saw the pictures of your Furbabies and they all are wonderfully beautifull :)

I'm on the hunt for a yard kennel for the puppies.
How much do you sell yours for (can pm me ) also how do you advertise? Do you breed out? Or do you own all the dogs?
