This is going to be long(I am mad)!

DH was working for a temp agency(for 13 months) and was assigned to an aircraft place. He was happy with the job(janitor). The aircraft place decided to finally make his employment permanent(great...he can now get benefits..NOT).He was making $7.25/hr and they told him he would now get $10/hr.He accepted the job.Today he gets his first paycheck and was told that effective tomorrow the pay rate will now be $6.50.How can they do this? They claim someone made a mistake. The HR manager was very upset about it,she kept apologizing to him.He is now making less than before(we were barely getting by before).

I am happy that the rent will not go up(subsidized(sp?) housing). What gets me is they just filled out papers yesterday for our apts and DCFS that stated what he was to make $10/hr.I called both places and they say I have to get a new form and get it back to them ASAP.

I was worried that the big pay rate was going to hurt us,but even with increase in rent and decrease in stamps,we still would have been $50 ahead. Now I do not know what to do.

I know everything will work out,it always does!I just need to vent a little.

That's not even right. I thought if a employer hired a temp employee, the rate does go up.Most places hire temps because it is cheaper.

I would fight this one.

Good luck!!

He tried. They basically said if he does not like it he can leave.Jobs are so hard to get where we live(they know that too),so we have to accept it.He is going to talk to one of the execs. Monday(the same one who got him the job),and see if there is anything he can do.

He has been told by many of the people out there that he is the best(and longest lasting) janitoral they have had.He likes his job.The execs. request him to clean thier offices.

That is grounds to sue. If they say that the pay rate will be one thing and then pay something different, that is nothing less than bait and switch (there is a different name if they use it for salary but I can't think of it off the top of my head). He needs to call the local labor board and find out if what he can do. Regardless, this is not legal.

I just called legal aide and was told it is legal. It was not exactly bait and switch. He had to leave the temp agency due to the aircraft place no longer using temps. They are within thier legal rights to "make a mistake" .I just do not know why they are willing to pay 2 weeks and the $10/hr.I wonder if they are trying to weed out those who are just there for the money. They hired 4 new guys and only 1 is really doing a good job.DH is so upset. He called on his lunch break almost in tears. He was so happy about making that much money.I told him we will be fine.THEY will look out for us.

There is no union(that we are aware of).I am going to write a letter to the main office(in NC) about this if they do not get it settled by next week.

IF THERE IS, THEN YOUR HUSBAND NEEDS TO SPEAK TO THEM ABOUT THIS. AND WHEN YOU ARE HIRED BY THE COMPANY FROM A TEMP AGENCY, THE PAY IS SUPPOST TO GO UP. NOT DOWN. MY BEST FRIEND JUST GOT HIRED BY THE COMPANY SHE WAS TEMPING FOR, AND HER PAY WENT UP. GOOD LUCK.

That is just wrong!!! Hmmm, makes me wonder if the company is having financial problems. That would be one reason why you would hire new people at a lower wage.

Good luck. I know things will work out for with all the prayers and good vibes being sent your way!

They just had a big quarterly meeting Wed. and said how thier facility is doing great.they have made over $1 mil. this year so far just at that facility.

The co. is Timco(they fix aircraft for United airlines and are in the process of getting a federal cotract). The city just gave them $250,000 to fix up a hanger for the government contract. They are spending $100,000 right now to redo the bathrooms. They seem to not be having financial problems.

Most companies do pay their regular employees less than temp employees. That's because the employer has to pay more fees, benefits, etc. on full time regular employees. They try to make it even out. I know our employees here who are temp with no benefits are paid more than our regular people.

It certaintly wasn't right to say one thing and do another...

Aneisu is correct. We have temps where I work and they do get paid less because of the benefits they get when they hire on with us.

Is it right for them to do this? No it's not. They should have never told the man that he would get that much more on the hour than what he is actually getting.

Right now, businesses can do just about what they want to do because of the bad economic times. Maybe things will be looking up in the near future.

I knew a friend when I live in Florida a few years back and she was moved up to management. When they moved her up they lowered her pay and she was PO'd too. She called about it and was told that as long as they pay you minimum wage there is nothing really that can be done about it.

Does he by chance have anything in writing from the company? If so, then they a legally bound to abide by what they wrote.

Yeah, really. When hubby goes and talks to the guy that hired him, I'd wanna explanation as to why he said dh was hired at X amt of pay and all of the sudden things are changing. Make sure he tells em if he knew he was gonna get that much less than what he was making w/temp agency, that would've been nice to know beforehand. That is just plain rotten. Even that dollar cut in pay can really hurt us little ppl vs the high fulutants that make 6 figure salaries.

He does have something in writing. The HR manager filled out a paper(income verification for our apts.) the day before all this happened.that said $10/hr.He is going to talk with them today.Right now,we would even be happy just to get $7.25/hr again.

Thank you everyone for you kindness.

Between this and my new van only lasting 24 hours,I am just upset. Our other van started acting up last night(the rear brakes are sticking). At least he won $25 bucks on the race yesterday!
