I don't know if any of you remember that I had a real bad ear infection that the doctor couldn't get rid of so I ended up going to an ear specialist - well when I went to see him, he asked me if I had allergies and what I was taking and for how long and I told him, which yes I have real bad allergies and I have been taking allegra-D for about 2 years now and he wanted to know how come I was never tested for allergies and I told him that my doctor never recommended it. Well I let him do a blood test so he can do an allergy test and I got the results back yesterday....they rate your allergies as 1 is not too bad to 5 being the worst - Yeah - mine were all 4's and 5's except 2 that were 1's. So now he wants me to get allergy shots once a week for a year then after that it would be one shot every 2 to 3 weeks....called my insurance company and they said it pays 100 percent of it, so I figured, I might as well do it as long as its not costing me anything, even though I really don't want to go through with this once a week....
just needed to whine a little

I used to get allergy shots as well. I stopped though- before treatment was up because the 'nurses' who used to always give the shots always gave in the same exact area, week- after week. Mind you, they switch arms week1- right, week 2- left, week 3- right, but regardless after awhile both feel like pin cushions. It got so my shots hurt... I was told its because of the scar tissue from so many shots. Not sure how true it was, but thats what I got told, and there was no way to 'stop' the pain. So I decided to stop the shots. I was lucky enough that I had continued with it enough that aparently my body grew some resistance to my allergies because they aren't half as bad now. Just couldn't handle the needles for the 5 years total they wanted me to get the shot.

Personally think my doctor was just a nut, Instead of moving 'injection site' a few inches he made the choice not to. Good luck with your shots, and after awhile you'll be used to it. ((((hugs)))) You'll be suprised how much it helps.

I strongly recommend you go to an allergist and have a skin test done. Blood tests for allergies are highly inaccurate.

No way should you start allergy shots until you've seen a reputable allergist.

I agree with this 100%. My DD had allergies when she was little and she had to take shots for about 3 years. Her pediatrician said go to allergist and get skin test cuz blood test are VERY inaccurate. They tested her for about 40 different things and she was allergic to all of them except one and that was dogs! LOL! They can even test for food allergies this way. Food allergies can act the same as dust, mold, trees, grass,etc... My brother had skin tests done when he was young and all the normal stuff came up none or very mild so they did food allergy tests and he was allergic to chicken and fish, two things he ate all the time! So I suggest seeing an allergist so you can pin point exactly what you are allergic to, so you will know what to avoid if possible.

Good luck, hope you get to feeling better!
