ALLENTOWN

A North Whitehall Township man has been charged by Allentown police with stealing about $44,000 in cash and equipment from the heating and air conditioning company where he worked.

The suspect, 46-year-old Edward Green of 3107 Rick Road, was arrested at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Police Lt. Daryl Hendricks said while Green was a counter salesman at Riley's, 405 Business Park Lane, he was ''under-ringing items and pocketing the difference, changing invoices and stealing items.''

The thefts occured between January 2000 and October 2003, according to Hendricks.

Hendricks said Green was charged with theft by deception, receiving stolen property, access device fraud, unlawful use of a computer and tampering with records.

After being arraigned before District Justice Carl Balliet, Green was released on $100,000 unsecured bail.
