This makes me extremely mad. Now I know that many stray dogs and cats are probably strays, because they were dumped but I don't understand why people feel that they should just dump an animal.

Here is what happened to me.

Last night at about 8:00, I went to Petsmart and as I was walking into the store, there was this puppy running around outside, he didn't have a leash or a collar and nobody was with him. So an associate of petsmart who was out getting carts was whistling at the puppy, trying to get him to come to him and then a couple customers, including me were trying to get this puppy to come to someone. The puppy was very scared and wouldn't come to anyone. When someone would open a car or truck door though, the puppy would try to get in the car or truck. Anyways, this one couple was like did someone just dump this puppy? The puppy kept trying to get in their car. If you tried to touch the puppy though, he would bark and run. So, the couple went into the store and bought a packet of dog food and the puppy was finally caught after about an hour. And then the same couple said that they had seen someone toss the puppy out of a car and speed off. The puppy acted like he was starving and like he had been hit a lot. Someone that worked with the vet at Petsmart came out and she is the one who finally got a hold of the puppy. She said the puppy looks to be about 4-6 months old. She was asking if anyone wanted to take him home and I said I would. He is a smart puppy. I just don't understand what would make someone throw him out.

People always think little puppies are so cute. That's all they see. Later on they have this dog, that eats alot, barks and needs attention. Then they get dumped!! :( Those are the people that don't think about the lifelong commitment a dog is.

I live in the sticks and have no neighbors. We get all kinds of animals. Cats, dogs, rabbits and someone has even dumped off a bunch of rabbits!!!

You should be commended for taking the dog! That was a wonderful thing to do!! Your new friend will thank you forever!!!

Thats how my cat "Smokey" came into our lives - someone dumped him off (when he was no more than 1 month old) in my back yard.

But I am glad that you have a heart and took the puppy in. I love
animals and I hate hearing stories of when people abuse dogs.

I got my dog "Jewel" from the animal shelter and they told me she had been beaten and taken away from her former owners, you should have seen her - and till this day 5 years later, she still gets scared and the littlest things and she wouldn't bark for the first few years we had her, she wouldn't eat out of a bowl only off the floor, she jump at every little noise.....anyway
I'm glad this puppy has a good home now and what did you name her/him?

This is how our Rocket was when we first got him. It has been a little over a year now and he has changed so much. He is a very smart dog. We have moved a couple of times since we got him and each time he sees the boxes and sees us moving stuff out he gets so scared. He has to stay right next to us no matter what we are doing. We got him from a dog pound and he was found on the side of the road, so we are thinking that someone moved and just left him. So we always make sure he is able to get in and out of the car while we are moving stuff and that he is able to stay next to us.

But I mean, he is still a puppy, he is still small and he is so smart. And it is kind of obvious that he had some time spent with him, he knows how to sit when asked and he plays ball.

When I saw him at Petsmart, at first I was going to try to get him and take him in Petsmart and let them worry about him, but then when he was caught and they were trying to find someone to take him I had to say I would take him. And, he follows me everywhere now.

He does have a safe home now.

He is a mixed breed, he is part chow and the vet person said part shepard but I'm thinking possibly Akita, but he is deffinatly part chow.

I rescued two puppies before, I even posted about it here at the board, One of those puppies sadly past away, The one that survived, Is the best dog, he is so protective of the house, he is a wonderful dog, His name is Zelda and he is part Pitbull and something else, I don't know what. But I got him and the puppy that past away in a trade, They said I could have him and his brother for a bag of dog food.

Anyways, the new puppy already has a name and everything, His name is Ash. He is all black. My son said "Mom, why is he all black, even his tongue is black."

I will try to get a picture of him up here if anyone wants to see him.

My elderly aunt has a very pretty calico cat. She had it spayed years ago. It mostly stayed at home but sometime it would wander around a little. They couldn't find it for about 2 days and then it came home. The poor cat had been shot with a bb gun. She took it to the vet and he said that it had hit some organs. So they put it on iv for 2 days and sent it home. That was about a week ago. It doesn't want to eat and just lies around. They are feeding it with a syringe and getting a little in it and it still drinks water and moves around some. I feel so sad for the cat. It just makes me want to cry.

There is nothing as wonderful as the love of a dog. I am so glad that you took him in. Both of mine came from the ASPCA as puppies. Next time I will look at older dogs. But I am so happy that you have given him a good home. People think that puppies are so cute but they do grow. It makes me angry when people take on the responsibility and then when it becomes inconvenient, they just drop the animals where ever.

Our office now has 4 cats because they were dumped. They are the sweetest animals, all have been spayed or neutered and we got them all their shots. My bosses has two golden retrievers they got from the Humane League because people don't realize goldens are cute lil puppies but they grow BIG. Now we have another cat outside coming around for food...lol number 5 is close to being caught and loved

Well we have three pets. Our Oldest Dog Gypsy, she is a Sheltie. we got her at the SPCA, my husband picked her out. They told him that the guy just dropped her off, he was drunk, and the dog was scared of him etc. She was about 6 months old when we got her. In the beginning She didn't like men, (except my husband) esp if they wear a hat, or the Mailman, or anyone near our Mailslot. We have one of those Mailboxes across the street for the public and Gypsy will watch and when she sees someone there she will go crazy. She is now almost 9 years old, and we are expecting our first child and I don't know how she is going to react to them.

We also have a Maltase named Petey. At the end of this Month he will be 7 years old. We actually bought him at a Puppy Mill. And he is the craziest dog. He literally jumps from sofa to chair, w/out ever touching the ground. When we first got him, I tried to house train him by putting him in the cage. Well he loves that cage. He will go in there, when he has had enough of people and will bark until you come over and cover the cage w/ his blanket, and lock it up. People call him psychotic. BUT I love him to death

Our third pet, who just came into our lives unexptectly. We never had cats as family pets. We were always dog owners. One day DH was working outside our house, when this tiny little kitten came onto our porch while DH had the 2 dogs there. We had PT's cage out there, and the cat snggled up against Gypsy and then went into PT's cage (who was none too happy about that). She drank all of Pt's water. When I came home DH showed my the kitten she had fleas, so the next day we made an appt w/ the VET and she had worms, and was about 6-9 weeks old, born outside. And that she was a Girl. So we named her Americat and we have had her since the week of 9/11/01. I never thought I would be this attached to a cat, but I love her. We don't let her out, and I dont think she has the desire to go out, since she knows what it is like out there. She gets along w/ both our pets, but not other cats or dogs. Can't figure out why she is like that, since she is around other people's animals all the time. But she hisses all the time.

What I have learned about this??? I will never pay top dollar for an animal again. Every pet we ever had that was a good pet we got at the SPCA. Not that PT isn't a good pet, he is just crazy.

just wanted to say thank you for having a caring heart and gentle soul. It is wonderful that you took the puppy (Ash) in. Sounds like he will have a wonderful home and life.

We got a puppy that way once. Her and her brother were just left in a cart in front of a grocery store. We named her Dusty because of her color. I was about 10 at the time. She was so sweet. But she was a pit bull, and was getting too rough for a family with small children. So my dad gave her to a guy at work that had other pit bulls. Last we heard (about a year later) was that she was doing wonderfully.
We had a friend that had a pet store, and he had a springer spaniel that was getting too big for her cage, so he gave her to us to find a home. We couldn't keep her because of our intensley jealous jack russell, but someone came for her. We included a big bag of food too. 2 days later, our neighbor calls and says that the dog is in his yard. Guess the people just wanted the free food. (sooo wrong) She ended up going to my aunt (who lived in the rural desert), and ran away about a week later, never to be seen again.

I have a chow and it common for their tongue to be all black, mine even her pups have black tongues, and they are usually very faithful and loveable dogs, many people are scared of chows, but I love mine, she is a very good companion. Mine is almost 9 and she is a red chow, glad you gave Ash a home, he is very lucky to have been there at that time, seems someone knew you would be and knew you would love him:)

I kind of think it was. I was going to Petsmart to get cat food and then I saw this puppy and something told me to get the puppy and then there was this family who would have taken him, but they lived in an apartment and would have had to wait until they confirmed it with the landlord and then I thought well we have a big backyard, we live in a house, we do have 2 other dogs but there was room for this puppy and it's like something just told me to take the puppy home with me so I spoke up and said I could take him. And the thing is I had thought about not going to Petsmart after all because it was getting so late, but decided that I should go anyways, I mean our cats had food, I just needed to get more. And, the whole way home, the puppy was in the back seat of my car, and the whole way home he rode with his head on my shoulder, I would have put him in a crate to take him home, but I hadn't planned on getting a new pet so I didn't have a crate with me.

I love animals and I always have. I told my DH when I got home with the puppy that I couldn't just leave him there.

I used to have a full blooded chow and she was the best. She was very protective and when I would go to bed at night, even though she wasn't normally allowed on the bed, she would come jump on the bed and lie down for a while then she would get up and go lie down right inside the doorway and she would usually stay there till morning. Then, in the morning, she would come jump up on the bed again and wake me up. She was great.

My brother had two chows, they were the best pets. Sadly they both died. They havent gotten another dog yet but I am sure when they do it will be a chow. They are very protective, My sil used to take them to work with her almost everyday. Just to keep them used to being around people. Jasmine was a blue chow and Jewels was a red one, Beautiful animals!!

Awww poor puppy. :( I suppose the people who dumped him figured someone there would take him. It could have been worse I guess. I'm glad he got a good home!! People can be so heartless.

You are a wonderful person with a heart of gold to bring this wonderful little pup into your home.

It's so cruel how people can just throw away defenseless animals.

I would love to have a small dog but pets aren't allowed in my apartment complex (they do allow us to have fish or small birds...so I have 7 betta fish & I love them dearly).
