I am having twins, and so far I have only gained 15 pounds, I am huge, because I am small, but it is all babies. They have put me on a strict Diabetic Diet and that could be why I am not gaining the wieght, but then we are in the 7month and I could blow up. According to the DR they are not concerned w/ the weight at this time , that both the child's weight are equal. They are right on schedule One is not getting more than the other, and we should know more tomorrow, when we go for our Ultrasound. I am high risk so I have an ultrasound every 4 weeks, and see the Dr's every 3 weeks. My Vent is when we told his Mom (my MIL) she said she only gained 8pds w/ him and that he weighed in at 8pd 1 ounce. Does that sound normal???? I asked my mom and she said that she threw up w/ me the entire time she was pregnant w/ me and she still managed to gain 25 pounds and I was almost 7pds. Both my husband and I were born in 1969. My mom thinks that is odd that she only gained 8pds.

Oh man are you sure you wanna know this? LOL

well with my first one I gained like 50lbs, course I didnt do much of anything and ate whatever I wanted so that didnt help.

I think that sounds a little odd to to only gain 8lbs, she must not have ate anything.

sweetie - I had twins and they were big babies. Very healthy. They weighed 6/14 and 7/8. I was high risk because I had epilepsy at the time. I am not ashamed to say I gained a total of 45lbs, and right after their C-section, I was wheeled right to the scale and was shocked to see that I only weighed 3lbs more than I did when I conceived. When I was pg, I was all belly. No butt. I looked hilarious. Like I was carrying a huge egg in front of me. Unless your doc is concerned, I would think you are doing fine.

With Ds I gained exactly 20 pounds. When I left the hospital I had 4 pounds left to lose. My Dr put me on a sodium free diet because my weight gain was weird...I'd gain 7 pounds in 3 weeks, gain 1 pound in 3 weeks, then another huge jump. If he hadn't put me on the diet I might have gained more.

With DD, I had the flu early on and barely ate for 3 weeks, I lost 9 pounds. I ended up gaining those 9 pounds back plus 1 1/2 pounds. So I weighed 1 1/2 pound more when she was born than I did when I got pregnant.DD was also a smaller baby than DS and when they broke my water with her there wasn't a river like there was with DS.

Her gaining 8 pounds and him weighing 8 pounds doesn't matter, the fluid surrounding the baby also contributes to weight.

15 pounds in your 7th month with twins doesn't sound like a problem to me....if it were your Dr would probably mention it.

With my first I gained 60 pounds. I was a "skinny minnie" as people called me and everyone told me not to worry that it would all fall off after I had the baby  so I just kept eating and eating. :D I'm also a self-admitted saltaholic so that didn't help with the water retention.

With my second I gained about 40 pounds, but I still hadn't lost all the weight from my first so I felt just as big.

I can't believe your MIL only gained 8 lbs. I've known some people that don't gain much, but more than that I think.

OK, I just had Sophie on Jan 9. I lost 26 lbs in the first 7 months, then gained 9 of those back. As of Monday, Jan 26, I weighed 50 lbs less than the day I found out I was pregnant. Sophie weighed 7 lbs 7 oz and was a scheduled c-section 2 weeks before her due date.

With my middle son, I ended up weighing the same thing the day I went inthe hospital as I did the day I foundout I was pregnant with him. He weighed 8 lbs, 8 oz.

My oldest son weighed 7 lbs even, and I gained 15 lbs with him.

Just because your MIL did something does NOT mean you are going to do it. You are having TWINS and as long as you and your OB are happy, tell her to go jump in a lake. You listen to your OB and have healthy, happy babies. DO NOT tell her your weight gain/loss again, its none of her business. Just keep telling her "My OB is happy and says we are right where we need to be."

1st 55 lbs (7 lbs 7oz)
2nd 18 lbs (4 lbs 13oz)

It is possible, but it sounds like your MIL is just using it to make you feel bad.

Thanks for all your replies. I never cared about my weight before and I don't care now. Everyone kept telling me oh my you are going to get so big etc. I just thought it goes with the territory as long as I get a healthy child. I didn't tell his Mom he did. It was like she was comparing herself to me. And I told my DH that I am having twins so she can't even compare. What kills me about this!!! When we were trying to figure out when I would give birth, my MOm said "wouldn't be cool if you gave birth on March 17th it's your grandmother's b-day, and it falls on a Wednesday, and that is the day you were born". So I asked my DH to ask his mom what day he was born. He called her up and she said she had no idea that was 34 years ago, etc. She had two kids, how can you forget what day they were born? She can remember stupid sh*t, she can remember that she only gained 8 pds but not the day or the time??? I know that alot of people don't remember stuff like that, but it's funny what she does remember and what she doesn't remember.

My granny was born on St. Patty's day too. You just enjoy your life and let the crazy stuff the 'wiser ppl' say go in one ear and out the other.

Ok I'm 34 weeks preggo with twins and I don't think your weight gain is abnormal, my ob/gyn told me no more than 10-15lbs, but I was already overweight from taking birth control. I started out weighing 215lbs when I concieved and dropped to 200lbs even. Monday I weighed in at 208lbs but if you saw me I'm all baby and my hubby says my actual weigh is alot less than the 208lbs, he's guessing it's around 160lbs give or take a few lbs. I'm just ready for this to be over and it should be soon lol. I'm sorry that you've on a diabetic diet with yours. I can still eat as I please thank god lol.

OK first off Yes it is possible for your MIL to have not gained weight at all. Just a few weeks ago around Christmas there was a article in the paper about one of the local soldiers getting to come home because his wife had a baby, she didn't gain a pound and the baby was like 6 or 7 lbs when it was born. (RescueAPit might remember because we read the same paper.) I do believe it could happen, I just think she wants to make an issue outta it. But secondly. My first one was 7.7 (girl) I gained 13 lbs 2 days after she was born I had lost it all and my regular clothes were to big LOL
My second 8.10 i think (son) I gained about 19 pounds, 12 of those in 1 month  (Boy did the Dr yell at me) I did not lose it right away like with DD :( LOL This pregnancy is a boy, the first 4 months or so all I did was get sick, I lost 9 1/2 lbs one month. But now I am back up to what I was when I went to my first Doctors appt. He says I need to eat some more, I told him I would try. LOL

Good luck and do not let what she says bother you, everyone will have an opinion on something and when you are preggo everything it will bother you much more and she probably knows it. ;)

Okay....First and foremost, may I explain that on October 31, 2001, I had bariatric surgery. For those of you that do not know, this is the surgery where they go in and make your stomach smaller and re-route your intestines so that you digest food quickly/more efficiently. I went from a size 24 to a size 11 in a little over a year. Then I got pregnant. All of this was planned. I wanted to get my weight down for a safer, healthier pregnancy.

So, with the pregnancy, I gained just about exactly 20 pounds. My son was 8 lbs., 4 oz. When I came home from the hospital, I weighed 3 pounds more than before I got pregnant. Now, my son is 4 months old, and mommy weighs 20 pounds LESS than before I got pregnant! I eat all the time, but I am a breastfeeding mom. My son has never had a drop of formula in his life, and I don't intend on him ever to have any!! He is a VERY healthy, VERY happy, and VERY content little boy. I contribute most of this to the special bond and closeness that breastfeeding creates.

I am now down to a size 6/8!!

My pregnancy and delivery were storybook material. I couldn't have asked for it to go any better.

As for the question of you MIL only gaining 8 lbs, I think this is HIGHLY unusual. In fact, I think it is highly unsafe. They were concerned with me not gaining enough or the baby not getting enough nutrition. Well, he was over 8 lbs., so I think he did just fine. But back in 1969 they didn't have all the technology we have now. I think now she would have been VERY closely monitored with ultrasound and put on a high fat diet to give her and the baby more nutrition. Trust me, I know MIL, she is trying to do a neener-neener-neener on you. Don't let it bother you. Hold your head high and let the world know you don't care how much weight you do or don't gain. The most important thing is the life(s) inside of you!

Good luck! Happy pregnancy! It truly is a miracle!!

I gained 75 lbs with each of my kids. The Dr.s never said a word about my weight. For each person, the weight you gain is going to be differant. Some need to gain more and some less. All that really matters is that you and your babies are healthy.
I gained 75 lbs with my son, he was 9 lb, 6 oz and lost 80 lbs in 6 months- crazy thyroid caused that.

I agree with the comment it all depends on the person about how much one needs to gain when they are pregnant. As long as your doc is happy, then I would not worry about how much you have/have not gained.

With my daughter, I gained a total of 20 lbs and she was 7 lbs 7 oz, 21 inches long. I am now in my 25th week with my second child and I have gained a total of 10 lbs. My doc was a little concerned with me but when he did the ultrasound, the baby is actually 2 weeks ahead of schedule!

So don't worry about you MIL, sounds like she is just trying to start something.

I agree. I had a friend who gained all of 3 pounds when she was pregnant. I myself with my second child didn't gain any weight until I was 5 months pregnant, but then it came on LOL!

60 lbs with first, 30 with 2nd, 45 with 3rd. Lost 15 in the 1st trimester with 1 & 2 (morning sickness with 1st, no appetite with 2nd), and lost 30 with the birth of each one. Although I continue to carry that extra 30 that was never lost with #1, and the stupid depo shot added 20 after #2. Now the patch, while not gaining with it, is making it difficult to lose.
