its because of them I can't get any. Very few doctors will even do pain management around here. I have a ruptured disk with nerve damage,3-4 disks damaged, my spine also has polyps on it from the deterioration of the disk so I am in a lot of pain especially if I try to do anything and there is not much that does not make my back hurt. I have been on darvocets for pain for a couple of years and only take them when the pain is really intense or I am going to try and do a little work around the house even with the meds I have to lay down in between chores and sometimes even halfway through loading the dishwasher I have to lay down. Now my dr has left and I am out of meds and no dr. will do pain management so because they fear giving out prescriptions to a drug addict they refuse to give them at all. Now get this if I wanted to get the hard stuff its on the street but even with MRI x-rays and report I can't get pain meds from a dr. except something that is equal to tylenol. I am just furious I wish the dr. had to suffer like this for a couple of weeks then they might sing a new tune. Pain not only works on your body but your mind as well and seeing no relief as forthcomeing soon is a very depressing thing.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. Isn't there another dr you could go to? I personally know quite a few ppl that are/have been on strong pain meds w/out a problem. The only thing here is that you have to physically take the Rx to the pharmacy, it's not allowed to be mailed in or called in by the dr's office when it's narcotics & sometimes that's a pain!!

OMG!!! You have got to be kidding! That is a crock that a doctor won't give you your meds! Can he not read your medical file and see that you need them? I'd be looking for a different doctor! I feel for you honey, It seems we are in the same boat with back problems. I understand having to lie down between chores etc...I would die sometimes with out my pain meds. Hang in there and keep looking for a doctor that will give them to ya! (((((HUGS)))))

Find a new doctor. Even if you have to go to a larger city, it might be worth it.

I was in your shoes almost a year ago. My dr left the clinic and since I had no insurance no one would take me much less give me pain mangement. I ended up going to UofL hospital (a teaching hospital)where they have pain management-most of the drs are students assisted by specialist. Since I can't work and trying to get disability plus a patient at the clinic, I receive treatment at a low fee. They give me narcotics and controlled substances. I'm on methadone and lortabs now.
I have nerve damage and two herniated disk from a car wreck 4 years ago. also muscle and tissue damage so just moving is painful.
Call a hospital and see if they have pain management.
They can request your records and the dr should be able to give you better meds. I know here in Ky oxycontin is very hard to come by. I was on it but It was toooooo strong for me. I was a zombie and me and the toilet were very close for about three months.
Methadone still makes me quesy but my dose was lowered monday after I had my epidural.
good luck.

There are other ways around it. Like Intim said, call your local hospital or an anesthesologist in your area. Anesthesologists are trained in pain management and I bet you can get some help.

I don't have any problem getting my prescriptions from my doctor but I've heard of some people having a hard time. I'm like you, there are so many people who abuse the prescription drugs that it makes it hard to get them when you really need them. My best friends husband is an undercover narcotics agent and he said a big portion of the bust he does are for prescription drugs. He said that one oxycontin sells for around $40 on the streets and loraset sells for $20. The things he told me that people do with the drugs blew my mind! You would think the doctors would know which one of the patients are needing it and which ones are not. A clinic in a city by me did a random drug test on the patients and they were floored when only 3 patients out of 40 had thier prescribed drug in thier system. They found out that 29 of them were getting the scripts and selling them on the streets. There were no arrest made, but thier name was put in the computers and they can no longer get narcotics. If more clinics did these random drug tests I think it might help out some with the selling of the prescribed drugs on the streets. I sure hope you can find a doctor that will help you.
