I have a new nephew! Born last night, he's in NICU...

My BIL's girlfriend called me last night. Her water broke, and she was bleeding. She was pregnant, but not due until February 15th. Her placenta was seperating from the uterus, that's why she was bleeding. They had to do an emergency cesarean section.

My new nephew, Nikolas was born 12:10am. He weighs 3 lbs 1 ounce, I am so thankful that he is okay. The doctors said another 15 minutes and he probably wouldn't have made it. :( He is in NICU, where he will probably stay for 4-6 weeks. He's on a respirator, i.v., etc. Monica (the mother) is doing good, which I am also very thankful for.


My husband and I were at the hospital with her until 4:30am, when we finally went home. Probably going back to the hospital in an hour or so. Please keep them in your thoughts!

aawww CONGRATS!! He will be just fine,my son was a preemie too..born Dec 8th was due Feb 19 weighed 3.8 he's now 20 and 6 feet 3 :) so tell him he will be healthy and happy!

More details... she had toxemia or preeclampsia, the doctor's think which is why this happened. The umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck, which I didn't find out until now. The mommy is doing good, just fatigued and starting to feel some pain since the drugs are wearing off. She hasn't gotten to see her baby yet. :( They took her after surgery, but she couldn't see b/c her glasses were missing. She should be able to get up by tonight and she should get to see him. Things are looking good.

if her NICU is anything like the hospital where my grandson was born, parents and grandparents can see the baby anytime, aunts,uncles and other visitors have to be put on a list and only two people per day are allowed to see the baby.

One of the NICU nurses got pissy the day after Ian was born because Brandi(Ian's mom)'s mom, DD, my mom and I all went in to see Ian.Judy and I went in and then DD and my mom went in. His NICU Dr. had given permission because DD, my mom and I all lived out of state. Judy had a discussion with the Dr and that nurse wasn't allowed near Ian again for the nearly 4 months he was in the NICU.

LoL, yeah she don't care. I saw him right after he was born when they were taking him from the operating room to the nursery. Then they had the curtain open for about 10 minutes while they were hooking him up to everything. Haven't gotten to see him up close though. Only my BIL, M&FIL have seen/touched him.

Nikolas came home from the hospital last night! He is just over 4 lbs and can hold his body weight now. :D
