His whole family lives just up the road from my IL's, he had a little boy about 2 years old. This is just so sad, this area that they all live in is small and everyone knows everyone. He hit the fence last night but no one found him till this morning:( :( :(

Dh was friends with him, dh's younger sisters are friends with him and his girlfriend. :(

This is why people shouldn't snowmobile on property that isn't theirs, and why, if they have permission from the owner of the property, they should walk the route they plan on taking first.

This is so sad, but so preventable! I really feel for the families.

When I lived in Michigan, we'd hear of a number of these accidents
every winter.

PIERSON, Iowa -- Three juveniles are dead after two snowmobiles and a pickup collided Friday afternoon north of Pierson.

According to the initial investigation by Woodbury County Sheriff's Office, a southbound pickup in the 1000 block of Lennox Avenue crested a hill and collided with the two snowmobiles, occupied by four juveniles, that were crossing the gravel road. The accident happened at approximately 4:30 p.m.

A juvenile female was found dead at the scene, the sheriff's office said, and two other juvenile females were later pronounced dead at Mercy Medical Center -- Sioux City. A fourth juvenile remains hospitalized at Mercy with severe injuries. The driver of the pickup, a 16-year-old male, was also transported to the hospital, but the boy's condition is not known.

The sheriff's office said the snowmobiles were driving side-by-side as they crossed the road after coming out of a tree-lined area. Investigators said they believe at least two of the snowmobile riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

The accident scene was closed off by yellow tape as responding emergency personnel investigated the accident Friday evening.

The pickup was partially covered by a snow bank in the west ditch and had damage to its front and side. One snowmobile could be seen farther up the road and appeared to be heavily damaged.

The names of those injured in the collision were not being released Friday night, but the sheriff's office said the five are juveniles believed to be from the Pierson area.
