Why doesn't she get a JOB and stop producing kids that they can't afford?

Maybe she had a job and got layed off in this bad economy? Why would you say something so harsh w/out even knowing her situation?

The Macon Telegraph collects money this time of year to provide for families. I would also suggest that she call Social Services to see if there are any programs that will provide food for her.

If they are living on his disability then she should be eligible for food stamps. She can also call the department of Human Services at 912-751-6051. The food bank may be that careful because they don't get large donations or they have a policy about how much food you can get at one time so that they can have something for everyone that comes to them.

This web site also lists other organizations that might help out:http://www.myac.org/Tpages/help.htm

This is a list of social services that might be able to help out as well:http://phonebook.superpages.com/yellowpages/C-Social+Service+&+Welfare+Organizations/PI-57718/S-GA/T-Macon/

If she doesn't make the calls or do the work, she isn't going to find the right people to help her.

i live in texas, and my husband got hurt in january. i draw ssi disability of $552.00 a month, and we get $136.00 a month in stamps. and it does not last a month, even if you only eat beans and potatoes. we have tried it, and they dont last. i am thankful for our local churches, they have been a great help. she should contact the local churches in her area, most of them are glad to help.

My husband and I get 94 a month in food stamps and we live on my ssi and I can guarantee you that it doesn't last the whole month. Thank goodness he is going to work again. Economy is hitting hard in many areas big time. It is unfortunate. Hope she can get help.

Has she tried the churches, salvation army, and feed the children. She needs to contact every agency available.

As for the comment by awewoman. That was just rude and uncalled for. How do you know what her situation is. She and her husband could have made plenty to support their children before he was placed on disability. I don't think I have ever seen such a mean spirited comment. I am new here, but I would hope that that kind of thing is not allowed.

Thats been the problem for a long time. People think if you get welfare and food stamps your living high on the hog. ill admit there are a lot of people that cheat the system, and dont need stamps or a check. But there are a lot that do!!!!Think about this: What does it cost you a month,for----shampoo,conditioner,face soap, dish soap, toilet paper, something to wrap the kids lunches in(if they bring there lunch),what if you need a pair of socks,(OH,I know****Use the cash they give you,Right????.As far as the SALVATION ARMY GOES,you can only get food from them, every 3 months(and that's a fact!!)I know!!Sure i see people driving around in cadilacs, collecting welfare, but what about that poor soul that cant afford carefare for the bus!!!!Thats what i think of!!!! cathy
My daughter has a job,and it cost her $70.00 a month for a transpass, and $40.00 more for going into another zone.($1 each way))
have you seen rents lately???? Have you looked good at your gas, elec, water bill????

I agree.

edited to add...mean spirited comments are not allowed on the boards, but the mods really don't have time to read all of the posts, so there is a report this post link at the bottom of each post, so that if any find posts rude/offensive they can report them to the mods, and they check them out, and if the mods think the posts are outside the rules of this board (rude/offensive/hateful) they delete the posts and in extreme cases my ban the member...

And a thank you to all of the mods for the great job they have done!

I wanted to apologize..I really thought food stamps usually covered the whole month..when my mom reiceved them ack in the late 70's early 80's she would get between $300-$400 a month, for 5 people (mother/father/myself/brother/sister)....before that we had 2 other peopel living with us (my two older sisters) and my mom got a little over $500 a month then...I didn't realize that foodstamps had changed that much since then..

I work fulltime(making less than $10 an hr) and i get $151.oo a month for foodstamps for myself and DD.

I live in a public housing project(rent is $272 for a 2 bdrm)We just finally got into housing after a long wait.I moved from a 1bdrm duplex that was $380 a month.

I have always been a single parent working F/T(never gotten cash aid)I have two DD's (older is on her own now and herself gets F/S"s) and i have always been in some sort of housing and on F/S's. Now a days a single parent(or a couple)cant afford to eat without them.
I own my own vechicle and work 30 mins from home...Between gas for truck, insurance, heat, gas and HBA(health beauty aids)for the month we barely are getting by.....But we are together as a family!

I thank GOD above everyday i wake up healthy and am able to work and feed us with a roof over our heads. I know first hand how hard it is out there and unless you are among us "under blessed" and have walked in these shoes....dont judge....tis the season to help ok.
Give when you walk past that little red salvation army bucket and know its helping someone you may know.
TIA

** Happy Holidays everyone**

When I started getting them in '93 when my ex left, it was enough for us. But, you must keep in mind, it all depends on where you live, and how much your other expenses are. I was extremely lucky, because my mother did not make me pay rent. I had utilities, but no rent.

I absolutely love this board and the hypocrites that hang out here.

I asked a valid question and all of a sudden I am mean, hateful and need the help of the spirit.

What I find so funny is not one of you know a damn thing about me, but you were sure quick to judge me.

Perhaps, my question was a little harsh and I apologize for not wording it more politically correct.

Carry on with your venting and whining now.

I wish I could help your friend out.I know the food stamps I get ($328) for 5 of us do not cover all of our food for the month.WE are a family of 5 that makes $14,560 a year.We would not have had a Thanksgiving dinner this year,if it had not been for a wonderful couple that goes to family storytime at the library. They gave us a 4 lb ham and a 12 lb turkey.I wish your friend all the best and wanted to say it is so nice of you to care so much for them.

SCROOGE!SCROOGE! SCROOGE!

No we dont know your situation but by the same means you do not know this other persons situaion either but you were qiuck to say she needed "to stop producing kids they cant afford".
We(probably including yourself) have all been down one way or another and this poster was only trying to help someone she thought may need some asstistance.

You seem very angry for some reason and i just wanted to tell you i hope the holiday season envelopes you and you have a great holiday!

I think Awewoman had a point. Obviously there is some information missing if no one is willing to help them out. Seems to me that there must be more to the story than what's being told. To ban someone for asking a question and speaking their mind in the vent/whine thread is asinine.

Also, if they are all his children, he should be getting a pretty nice disability check. My brother was on disability for kidney failure, had a wife and two children and he drew $1500+ for a family of 4. No, not a lot, but with that and his wife's $7.00/hr job, they did okay.

we receive $356.00 for myself and 2 children. for me? i know where to shop and how to shop. buying all this prepackaged crap is where people get stuck..seems alot of ladies don't know how to cook "from scratch" and it realy makes a difference. and whats realy funny, is that now that i am on teh atkins diet..it seems to stretch even further...then again..i repeat..cooking from scratch...and not all that prepackaged crud...also there is a place calledc GFS , i buy my spices ..for like a dollar more than one o the tiny lil bottles ya get at a grocery...i can get 5 times that. get my romaine lettuce and apples/oranges there . the fruit and veggies are "restaurant" quality and withing pennies of what you'd pay at a normal grocery..also i visit aldi's and savesalot..it realy is what you buy.

anywho.....the programs are there FOR A REASON!! der. as for this lady...and so many kids? hand her some condoms ..maybe a pamphlet on BC, maybe the address to the local planned parenthood office.....not being rude..just being realistic.

Realistic?! I have 5 children (4 I've given birth to & a step-son) - 2 of those birth control pills didn't work & 1 of them a condom didn't - apparently God had other plans! Maybe it is the same for the lady the OP posted about.

There seems to be a lot of assumptions made about this family. ANYONE can fall on bad times. Just because the woman has six kids does not mean that is the reason why they are having financial difficulties. Maybe some of the children are the husbands from a previous marriage. Maybe the husband had a high paying job and was able to support the entire family on one pay check or maybe the mother does have some type of job. We don't know anything about this family other than what was stated in the OP's original post. Handing her condoms and pamphlets on birth control are not going to help her present situation. We could say the same thing about anyone here who is receiving some type of assistance. Maybe if those of you who are complaining had used a condom you wouldn't need to be on assistance right now.

wow some nerve there!
how did you turn a topic of needing help for a family to telling people to use birth control.

I wasn't I was just pointing out that the person who HAD should not be telling others that they need condoms or birth control pamphlets if they are on assistance themself. Maybe you need to go back and read all of the posts.

I am sure this family recieved some type of asstistance for the Thanksgiving Holiday so maybe its time this thread ended.....just an idea?????

** and just a foot note**
I am a single parent who works fulltime(always have) and i still recieve assistance....dont you??? You know who you are??

Willow

I hope no one thinks I am bashing anyone on assistance. I just don't think it's right for one person who is on assistance to be telling someone else that they should of used a condom or birth control because then maybe they wouldn't need help right now. I think that's kind of being hypocritical.
