I just did a brave thing. I took 3 kids on a road trip without DH. 700 miles to So. Cal. to my parents for a week. I had just crossed the UT-NV border when my ear plugged up so bad, I couldn't see straight. I totally thought I would pass out. I was fighting to see just long enough to pull over and not crash and kill my kids. Sooo scary. I got out and took and allergy pill, and later discovered I had lost my son's jacket on the side of the freeway. It quickly passed, and I was able to get back on the road, but the incident distracted me from the fact I needed gas. 20 miles past Mesquite, I made the decision to turn around. That would take up 40 miles of the limited mileage on the rental van. The needle on the gauge hit rock bottom and I still had 10 miles to go. I prayed the whole time, and was able to get there. I didn't want to take any chances and went to the first gas station which was Shell. They're too expensive. So I put in enough to safely get me to Vegas, and topped off there. All went smoothly until Barstow. Road Construction narrows it to 2 lanes, and then an accident takes it to one. Grrr. But the boys got to see a helicopter up close! The first thing my parents say to me when I get there is to call my husband. He's freaking out becuase I should've been there 2 hours before I was. I had to change a diaper first, so I couldn't call him right away. He ends up calling again before i'm done. All in all it was a good trip. I was about to string my 6 year old up by his ears several times. And when it came time to leave, they cried and didn't want to go. I went down for my brother's wedding. It was very touching, and I was sorry DH wasn't there. As soon as we got home, DS was ready to go back. That's not a trip I'm going to make anytime soon. Too much driving. And that Cajon pass...I'm taking the truck lane next time. It's not fun to go 90 on the edge of a cliff, and you can't slow down because that's the flow of traffic. Crazy people!!
I can't wait to move back there so I don't have to go through this too much more.

Great to be back!!:D

P.S. I could've swore DS's jacket was in the van. I found it hanging in his closet the day after we came home.

Sounds like the road trip from hell. We have driven Cajon Pass before. I thought our breaks were going to burn up because it is a long way downhill!
