Today while shopping at the dollar tree store I glanced over at a woman standing near me, she caught my attention due to the fact she looks a lot like a friend of mine and I thought it was her, it wasn't but for some reason her and her friend began snickering rudely saying to one another that, "she was checking you out!" I realized they were talking about me and thought I was a lesbian. I am secure in the fact that I am well aware that I'm a heterosexual so the fact that they thought I was a lesbian didn't bother me, it was their rude comments and giggling like since they thought I was a lesbian they could be that rude and it was alright, apparently lesbians don't have feelings or good hearing. I tried to ignore them since I found their behavior ignorant but it really made me angry. I wanted to say, "I don't swing that way but if I did you wouldn't be my type I like people with class and good manners!" Have you ever been mistaken for a lesbian? To anyone who is gay who should read this, I'm not trying to put anyone down and if I've offended you I'm sorry the thread is more about people being rude and thinking its OK just because someone is different than they are.

Can I say, the best line i have ever heard for this came from an "A" number one movie.. "If that did it for me, I would be the luckiest man in the world"
could sub woman for man, lol

I've never been mistaken in public for a lesbian, but my mother accused me of it more than once in high school. Because she didn't know about the guy(s) I was dating, she assumed that there was something more going on between me and my best friend. Later, when she did find out what I was up to, she had to eat her words though.

I would have called them on it, and made them feel stupid.

Here is a story you may find interesting. It happened almost 20 years ago when I was a freshman in college. I went to a college about 2 hours from here, unfortunately most of the students came from my area, and many of them were typical Long Island people (vacuous, culturally ignorant suburbanites, and shallow).
I was paired with a roommate I could not live with. She smoked (sorry, I hate it), kept partying hours, and basically we did not get along. She was into drugs and had dubious friends I didn't appreciate having access to my stuff. Anyhow, I had met a girl who was more like me and my roommate just happened to be friends with HER roomate. So we asked to switch.
Well, a few of the girls decided somehow that my new roommate and I were probably gay just because we were quiet and didn't party or let ourselves be used by whatever guy came by. Anyone who lived in a dorm can relate to the rumors that get started.
One day a group of girls were getting ready in the bathroom. One of the most petty ones shreked when she saw me in the bathroom (she was wearing a towel or something). What did she think? I was a mad lesbian who was going to attack her? Stupid. But it hurt me, a lot.
The funny part is I wasn't, and I'm not, gay. But imagine living day after day in a dorm with people thinking you are, especially shallow 18 year old boys and girls. That can have a real effect on a young person.
The other ironic thing is I had a ton of various crushes on boys! If only one of them would have responded...lol..I also had a large group of friends (male and female) which helped me get by when I got teased.
Any of you in high school or college need to learn not to judge books by their covers! Just because a girl doesn't sleep with every jerk who comes along or gets good grades or isn't a Barbie doll doesn't mean she's gay!!

I like that. True too.
I think if I were in the position like that at the store where ppl were talking, giggling, etc., I'm the "forward" type that'd prolly walk up to em, give em a wink and say, 'hey baby, wanna hold my hand?" lol I could really see myself doing that too. lol. I'd try to use their ignorance to my advantage. We'd be seeing who had the last laugh.:D:D

Just let it roll off your back. Who cares if you or anyone else is/is not gay. You were not going up mauling/raping them. You thought that she was someone you knew. I know that I have looked at people thinking that they were someone I knew. They were obviously morons who do not have any class. If we allow everything to bother us in the world...
I have been hit on twice by women when I was 19. I went to Seattle on a trip with a friend. I had a lady a Starbucks flirting with me. I took it as a complement. :D No big deal SOMEONE found me attractive. LOL I was talking about my trip when I came back to work. I had a closet Bi ask me if I wanted to get to know her better. uh, no. I am not that way. That was it. That was all I said. And she then set me up with one of her guy friends. LOL

Personally I think it was very rude of those "women" girls actually, it is like being teased and made fun of for having a handicap, brown hair, a mole, being over weight, etc. I hate it when people do this. It drives me insane.

I totally agree!!! Grown women should not be acting like that. They should be ashamed of themselves.
