My husband was informed last week that they were eliminating his position. He will work until the end of November. I have major back problems and don't know what we will do without the insurance. Then to top it all off the transmission went out in our 2000 Ford Windstar with less than 50,000 miles on it. Our warranty just expired so it is going to cost us $2400 to fix it. The dealership says there is NO reason why this should have happened.

My Mom had a problem with their windstar. Had the transmission replaced and then it wouldn't work. The warranty had expired too. Dad took it to an old friend, and it ended up being looked at by all the different mechanics on that street. No one could figure out what was wrong. It was in the shop for 3 months. Meanwhile they were able to borrow my sister's car (she's a SAHM). When they finally got the van back, Dad's car gave up the ghost. Sis couldn't afford 2 cars anymore, so they sold it to my parents. Things work out. And I'm starting to think there's a Windstar conspiracy.

Report it to the manufacturer and the dealership, maybe your complaint is the one that will cause the recall, sounds like lots more are having problems w/ the SAME thing

Sorry about your hubby's job & Insurance (boy do I know the feeling)

About the van I'd call Ford and raise heck, esp. if the warrenty just expired. I've done it with my car (Hyundai tho).. also one place to look & see if this is common or known http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/
you can search by make, model & year for defects, consumer complaints, recalls..

My friends transmission also went out in her Windstar TWICE- same model year as yours. There has got to be somthing you can do!! She had a warranty on hers so that it was covered. Good luck.
