If any of you read my post about the mailbox from yesterday I've been on the phone ALL DAY LONG talking to HOA and police.

Police came out yesterday and took report, said it's been happeneing in our subdivision about the past month.

HOA..........I CAN'T STAND THEM.

They only have certain mailboxes that they want in the front yard....I understand that. The ones they want cost $125.00 and up. Then, they don't want to take the accident report since it's been happening (I was told kids will be kids)....then, they want me to pay for the neighbors mailbox as well. Ours has more damage than theirs does.

On top of all that they (vandels) took the neighbors Halloween decorations and distributed them around the neighborhood. Pumpkins, windsocks, candles.....

I can't believe this. I told them to take me to court. I don't understand a mailbox that cost $125.00, neighbor said that it wasn't our fault and agreed we'd pay for our own damage....and they had stuff taken from their yard we didn't!!!!!

He's (neighbor) trying to talk to HOA himself and explain that it wasn't either of our faults and that it's not a "false claim".

I HATE HOA!!!!!!!!!

Then, some woman from HOA has come by the house 3 times today to tell me that if the mailbox isn't replaced or fixed we'll be fined $500.00!!!!

What about the man's truck that has a dent from a pumpkin, other mailboxes that are damaged and still sitting there????

ARHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

If you're not going to take a police report and the word of the sheriff then who are you going to listen to, to believe?

We weren't home when it happened!!!!! Why would I or Aggie destroy the mailbox when we've lived here a little over a year????? That doesn't sound logical to me.

I'm pissed, pissed, pissed. Well, a lot more but, I can't print that.

I send support to you, as I know how much my mom has been complaining about the place she moved to and all their rules, hope you can get through this and I would tell them to shove their fines, it is ridiculous.

Why in the H*!! would you be responsible for OTHER people's mailboxes. That's ridiculous. Just so you know....my father's a real estate attorney if it comes down to that. He's great and incredibly fair. Big HUGS!!!! This is why when I buy it will be in the Heights.....no HOA!!!

I think that you need to challenge your HOA. Why should you be responsible for any mail box other than your own? And what makes them think that they can fine you and make you pay (ok, the could put a lein on your house). I think that you need to tell them to put it where the sun don't shine.

You must live in a real swanky neighborhood if the mail boxes are $125.

I think it's time to call your local televison station! Tell them whats happening and i bet something will be done and it won't cost you or your neighbors $$$$$
I think's it's something like On your side or called similar in your area...
Good Luck

Jeeeez!! It reminds me of this movie I watched one time about a HOA neighborhood. They were REALLY strict and these new people moved in. When something wasn't right in their yard, one of the neighbors would fix it. Well they didn't like that so they messed things up on purpose. Then they found out that there was this monster that lived in the ground and he liked things a certain way. When things weren't his way, he would drag one of the residents under the ground!

It was a pretty stupid movie. Sounds like you have your own monsters to deal with though. :D

you can get a mailbox at walmart for under $20..maybe even less than $10

I'm going today to find another mailbox. I saw some the other day that are EXACTLY the same as what we have.

This is stupid....their excuse for it costing so much is for paying for the patrol in our neighborhood....you ask me if we had patrol doing their job this wouldn't of happened.

Aggie spoke to the guy who's van was smashed it's going to cost him over $2,500 to get it fixed.

There is one young man that fessed up....said he's not doing it anymore. He does know who's doing it but, won't tell. Police said they are going to watch this young man and the people he hangs out with.

There was another mailbox hit lastnite on the other side of the neighborhood. Same kind of damage as ours and all the rest.

HOA isn't getting anymore money from me. I already paid my dues for 2004. Wouldn't you think that the money would come out of that???? NO!!!!! It's additional cost.

If HOA doesn't like it well.........tough. These mailboxes are identical in every way. Certainly a lot more affordable...around $20/25.

You'd think that our mailboxes pooped gold or something....hate to tell you HOA they don't!!!!!

That amount of money for a mailbox is ridiculous, but I liked your "pooped gold" comment! My mailbox is sitting in a bucket of cement because DBF can't dig a hole! It does make it portable if we wanted to screw with the mail delivery person...move it to the left a few feet one day, move it back a few feet another...I don't because I want to keep them delivering my freebies!!!!

Anyway, {{{hotwheels}}} and your HOA better watch out when they see you cooming!

Do you have to pay HOA for your mail boxes, do you think maybe they are wanting more money so this is their way of getting it?If the price is to pay for patrol there then seems patrol is not doing their job if damage is being done!!

Sorry you are having to deal w/all this!! Thank god I've never lived in a neighborhood w/HOA! I would have thought the cost of replacing the mailbox would come out of the the money you pay in dues, especially if they want designer mailboxes!! I think the question that needs to be answered is, where is security hiding at night? Obviously the patrols the HOA are paying for aren't doing much good.

I went bought another one today at Lowe's. It was around $25.00. It's waiting on "approval" from HOA....whatever that means....It's exactly the same as the old one. Except for the numbers aren't on there.

They want an additional $45.00 to install in if they "approve" it.

Let me tell you, give me back the box I bought. I'll go out there w/cement blocks drive it into the ground. All I want is my mail to be delivered....mail carrier has been coming to the door last few days, anyway.

I don't care if it's BRIGHT ORANGE W/GREEN DOTS....it's going in my yard. I've paid my dues for the year and I'm not paying anymore.

If it were left up to me I'd put the stupid thing up by the door. We live on a rural route and per HOA the mail carriers don't get out of their car to deliver mail.

Hate to tell you HOA I see my mail carrier almost everyday at my front door....she knows I'm disabled. Thinks it's stupid I have to walk/roll all the way down the driveway to get the mail. Besides, she likes our pets.

Guy next door is refusing to buy another mailbox. Doesn't care if it's almost lying on the ground....you can still open the slot and put mail in....I think it's funny.

(((((((((((HOTWHEELSTX)))))))))))))))

So sorry you are having to deal with this. At least your mail boxes are at the end of your driveway. In our area...because there are so many new home developments...the mailboxes are all together...every block of so. It's just like an apartment mailbox.

The central mailbox is just on our way home...but it is annoying to stop the car and get out and get the mail. Sometimes I don't pick it up for a couple of days.

What a pain, I'm sorry you have to deal with this!

Not to sound cynical, but do the people in charge of the HOA happen to have teenage children who might be the ones doing this? That whole ignoring the police report and 'kids will be kids' attitude would make me suspicious...

Yes....The president of the HOA has children in high school....along w/vp, treasurer and so on. None of them seem to have pre-teens or younger children living at home.

New mailbox was approved. Aggie and I dug a hole where it's supposed to go poured concrete in the hole and stuck both boxes in there. We're waiting on another letter....
