I work for a dry cleaners. Twice this week I found $100 in peoples
clothes. Both times I put it in an envelope to give back to them.
The first time, I even looked up the womans name in the phone book
and called her to tell her. She was not even that worried about it.
She said that she would pick it up sometime the next day. (It was
a hundred dollar bill). Her dh finally came 4 days later to pick it
up. Me, I would have been there in 2 minutes to get it. But it was
so tempting to just keep the money cause i sure could use it to buy
Christmas presents for my kids. And I work by myself so it was even
harder to give it back. I told my boss though to quit testing me,
I am not going to keep the money even though i wanted to. - He
was not testing me though. The people did leave it in their clothes
and had forgot about it. The second man did realize that he had lost
the $100 but did not know where.
So everyone check your clothes before you take it to the cleaners cause I might just keep your money, lol.

OMG If that had been my money I would have been there before you had even hung up the phone! Not that I would ever have that kind of money and if I did I sure as heck wouldn't be so careless as to lose it! Must be nice to have that kind of money to just "misplace"
I can imagine how hard it was to give the money back...I would have had a death grip on it when they tried to take it outta my hand lol. But seriously, you did the right thing:)

Yeah, and what makes it worse is the first woman did not even know
about the money and evidently was not that worried about it cause they
only live 5 minutes from where i work. Must be nice to be that rich
that you aren't worried about $100.

Heck next time it happens just give me a call and I will come pick the money up since they don't seem too worried about it:D That way you won't feel guilty and I will feel rich:D;)

I used to work in a laundromat/dry cleaners and would get the same thing. Especially when we wuld do "fisherman's" clothes. We would always put the money in an envie and be sure to let them know it was in there when they came to pick up their clothes. It IS hard to be honest sometimes, but it makes you feel better about yourself.

Did they at least give you a tip for being so honest?? Usually we made tips anyway, but when we returned money like that, (if it was a Fisherman, they gave us a portion of it). I found almost $300 one time and the guy gave me $125 for being honest and returning his money. Sometimes it pays off to be honest!

It is hard to do the right thing but I am proud of you for being so honest. Just remember that what comes around goes around and someday your kindness will be returned to you! :D

Ditto! I know it's hard, especially when they don't "need" the money and you do. You did the right thing. :)

No, they did not give me any reward for giving them back their money.
One guy just thanked me for being honest and the other guy just told
me that he is a lawyer and does this all the time, sticking money in
his shirts and forgetting about it.
But it was just so hard to give it back, cause i am struggling right
now to get presents for my kids for christmas. Plus they need shoes,
jeans, and a light weight jacket. I feel really bad about this.
Especially cause my baby had worn a size 2 shoe for a long time.
Then i noticed his big toe was swollen and nasty looking. He should
have been in a size 5 at least. I felt so bad cause i did not realize
that his foot had grown. It really made me feel like a bad mother.
So now he is going around barefoot. This will allow his toe to heal up and me to be able to get a pair of cheap shoes.
