My sister, who will be 15 in November got her belly button pierced over the summer. I didn't want mine pierced. Well, we both got our progress reports, Katie had an A in color guard (It's marching with the band, everyone gets an A!), 2 Cs and a D. I got an A, and 2 Bs on mine! Well, since Katie's getting "good grades" mom just took her to get her tongue pierced... I'm getting better grades and since I don't want a piercing I don't get anything.
Mom's paying $80 to get Katie's tongue done and paid $65 over the summer for her navel, and since I don't want a piercing I'm left in the dark... she won't give me cash because as you told my grandpa, quote- "She just wants money so she can put it in the bank." IT'S NOT FAIR! My mom ALWAYS gives Katie money for things because every week when we get our $20 allowance a week from grandpa Katie blows it on junk... I don't think I should be punished and not given anything just because I like to put my money in the bank... mom tells me everytime she gives Katie money that I have over $1,700 to go spend. :(
I know I may be coming off as a bit spoiled, but it just doesn't seem fair to me that me and Katie get the same amount of money- I don't work or anything, no time- and since Katie spends it all at once she gets more money!
Thanks for listening... I think I'm going to go take a nap... I've been stressing over nothing for the last few weeks... seriously! That's a whole nother' vent though!

Well that sure does not sound fair to me either, maybe you should talk with Grandpa and see what he has to say....

ok first I typed something really strongly worded edited that then I edited my editing so now I'll just say i'm sorry life isn't fair sometimes. Look on the bright side - you'll grow up someday. AND you can get through the metal detectors at the airport LOL

IMO, it almost seems as if your mother is punishing you for being thrifty and being they type of person that saves rather than be frivolous with your money.

Ok first I have to say that it doesn't seem fair to me but then again alot of things don't seem fair.
I think it is GREAT that a girl your age is mature enough to save money and not just blow it on anything and everything that has a price tag! Kudos to you!
Keep your head up b/c one day your sis will wake up and regret blowing ever penny she had.....specially when she sees how much you have saved up;)

Thanks for your replys. When they got home my grandpa got onto my mom for letting Katie get her tongue pierced and what not. My mom took us to Walmart and bought me the $15 pocket neopet I wanted and gave me $40. I'm happy, even if Katie's tongue cost $68, and she got a $30 barbell for her belly button... Then when we went to Walmart since mom was buying me something Katie got all kinds of new cosmetics. I'll live. Oh, lol, I got these candies and ate the whole box before reading the "Warning: Consumption of too much may cause laxitive effect." Not good. ;)
Glad you got something after all

Where on earth did she get her tongue pierced that cost $68? Mine was $30. And she needs to check out www.bodycandy.tv or www.cdthunder.com
They have body jewelry for like $1.99, less if you buy a large quantity. No way in HELL would I pay $30 for one belly ring, my gold tongue ring cost less than that and it is 14k.

She went to this place called Dr. Jeffes, it's like a professional place. The jewlery they use is titanium steele, or something like that, and it's the only kind my mom will let my sister get... she looks at all the belly rings in the mall and stuff, but the professional places seem to be the only ones with titanium jewelry. The barbell has this little chain dangling from it... not a smart idea for her if you ask me, when she does guard, if it gets caught on her flag, that thing will rip right out! I think it's a rediculous price too, which is another reason I'de rather have the cash... I wouldn't pay $68 for someone stick a hole in my tongue!
Adding: I'll have to tell her about that site you mentioned, I just looked and they do have titanium jewelry there... I guess maybe it cost a lot since she bought it at from the "professionals."

Well then do what she said! Go spend it at the bank and buy savings bonds that double when they mature. Get a safe deposit box while your at the bank. It doesn't cost much to rent a small per year and keep them in it. Or how about a CD....either way your money will be working for you and you can honestly say that you bought something with it. ;)

Your mom handles your sister that way just because your sister blows her money. It's sort of stupid because she should be rewarding you for saving money and she is only teaching your sister that if she wants something Mom will get it for her.
Just keep putting your money away. When your 40 you will have everything you want and your sister will still have nothing. And she will be trying to borrow from your mom and you. Keep your money safe. Your sister's time is coming. When she comes begging you for money remind her how she has spent the money she had gotten over the years and then tell her since she doesn't know how to handle her money she doesn't deserve the money you have worked so hard for and saved.

Is there anything else you want, that your mom could get for you, besides piercings? Maybe clothing, or ANYTHING else?
Yes I do think it is unfair, but as another poster said..such is life
