The body of the woman found the Tallahatchie Bridge on Aug. 20 has been identified by the Lafayette County Sheriffs Department.
The woman was identified as Jennifer Hyman, 24, of Oklahoma City, Okla. She was identified through the National Criminal Information Center, a computer system that provides efficient communication for police departments nationwide, said Investigator Jay Hill of the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department.
Hill said the department sent the missing person information to the NCIC Web site daily.
Hyman was last seen at a truck stop in Oklahoma City on Aug. 18, two days before her body was found in Lafayette County.
The Oklahoma City Police Department called the sheriff's department Monday after seeing the missing person report on NCIC.
Hill said he has received numerous calls about the woman since the investigation started.
He said when the calls come in to inquire about missing persons, "no one is sure," and it is a long process to confirm any descriptions.
After confirming the height, weight and age of Hyman, the Oklahoma City Police Department e-mailed a picture and a set of fingerprints to the sheriff's department. This week they have been examining the picture and the prints to confirm the woman's identity.
The Hyman family could not be reached for comment.
"I do not know when her family last saw her," Hill said.
The Lafayette County Sheriff's Department said they will continue to work with the Oklahoma City Police Department and the Oklahoma Police Department to find out what happened, why it happened and who was involved.
"Hopefully we'll get some answers very soon," Hill said.
