I work 3rd shift and sleep during the day. I was just woken up by hearing my doorknob rattling. I thought it was my kids coming home so I didn't think a whole lot about it. When I didn't hear the girls I got worried. I heard some voices outside the sliding glass door in my bedroom a few minutes before, so I stepped outside to see if anyone was out there. There was an A/C company truck on the other side of the driveway (it's a duplex) and saw my landlord's truck pulling off. I called his cell phone and asked if anyone had been in my house. He said "yeah, that wws me". I was so freaked out and ha;f asleep I did not know what to say. I just asked him if he would call first because I did not want people wandering around my house while I am asleep. He said ok. After that there was no way I was going back to sleep. I called the sheriff and they said he does NOT have a right to come in any time he pleases. he has to give me reasonalbe notice unless the property is being damaged and it is an emergency(fire, major water leak, etc). He also told me to change the lock and not give him a key. I did not know i could do that, but you can bet your butt I'm gonna do it now. He didn't even knock, he just came right in. He knows I am here by myself during the day and that I sleep duringthe day. Dammit, I don't sleep with clothes on and had some strange man in my house! My bedroom door was wide open. I don't know what he was doing in here, he didn't say and I didn't think to ask, like I said I was half asleep and scared as hell. My sister works for a lawyer's office, she gave me the Florida statute regarding tenant rights. I am going to write him a nice letter and let him know this beter not happen again. I may just e-mail him so he gets it pronto.

Send the letter certified mail, so you know he got it. Keep a copy for your records.

I would be more than freaked out, I would have freaked on the landlord...
Any where that I have ever lived it was the law if a landlord was entering your premises they have to give you 24 hours notice..
Don't let him get by with this, do what you have to do to protect yourself, so many perverts in the world these days you just never know...

Well, it's done, the lock is changed, the keys are made and the door is gonna stay locked from now on. I am going to write him a letter tonite and get it mailed out tomorrow.
In Florida they have to give 12 hours notice if they want to come in. 12 hours is kinda short but it's better than nothing.

 What was he thinking?! He probably didn't think you were home for some reason, which would make me wonder how many times he's been there when no one was home. Maybe he was drunk/high and didn't realize what he was doing. I just can't imagine what would prompt him to go into your house and/or think he CAN do that.
Weirdo. I hope this doesn't cause problems between you. I mean, I hope he doesn't look for a reason to kick you out or anything.
Ew, how creepy. I don't blame you for being flustered!
Well, I'm glad it was just him and not someone ELSE in your house.
