Hi,
My Mom's 70th b-day's coming up Teusday and although I got her a bunch of goodies, I know that she wants a faucet mounted water filter. I had gotten her a Brita pitcher a couple years ago but she dropped it a couple months ago which made me realize the arthritis in her wrists is making it harder to lug heavy jugs.(duh) Anyway, I am going to get her one but I have no clue as to which is better.Does anybody here have one? which do you think is better as far as doing the job(filtering), water flow through the tap, cost of replacement filters,etc..
Any opinions on them in general would be welcome.
Also has anyone seen them on sale anywhere?

I may wait til Christmas- I've already gotten her a combo radio,CD, and cassette player, a waffle stick maker, 2 posturpidic Queen bed pillows, a red ladybug clip watch for her keychain, an Eddy Arnold cassette, a Willie Nelson cassette, a Merle Haggard CD, a Alan Jackson CD,(was bummed I couldn't find Elvis), the November copy of her favorite mag - American Astrology, a pair of gloves and some lipstick and nail polish. I'm trying to make it special and spoil her some as her life's been real short of spoiled and 70's a pretty big milestone. Also although my sis and her hubby got her real nice big non-stick frying pan that they're sending down with me for her and her eldest is sending a set of framed photo's from the reunion last July, I'll be the only one of her 5 kids that will be with her for the day. So I'm going to distract her with goodies til evening when her other two daughter will likely call.
Thanks for looking. :)

I used to have the Brita pitcher myself. But I used it too much & it got annoying having to wait for it to fill up all the time. I ended up getting a faucet mount & I like it much better, I`ve been using the PUR mount for over 2 yrs now & have never had any problems with it. I get my refills at Wal-Mart. I think their basically the same as far as price goes. HTH

Thanks for replying Mystic32,
Do you recall how often you have to change the faucet mount(a filter?) and how much the cost for the repacement is?

We have a teledyne waterpik faucet mount filter and we love it. A few yrs back, a salesman came around trying to sell a $5000 water filtration system you could install in your home. He tested our tap water and said that though it tested well for lead and those type things, it is very "hard" water (full of minerals)...then I had him test a batch that was run through the filter and it tested much less "hard"...proof to me that it does work! (we didn't buy the system!!) You just turn on your water...let it run about 3 seconds and then turn the knob and it reroutes the water through the filter..it makes the pressure much slower, but it tastes better! Filters are about $10 to $15 for 2 and 2 last about 6months I believe and thats for a family of 3. It was originally $30 or so. (Got it at Meijers). We really like it!!

I have a PUR faucet mounted filter that I bought at Kmart for $24.99 I am not sure how much the filters are because I haven't had to replace it yet. It's about halfway there now according to what it's showing in the little window. I did have a bit of a problem hooking it up. Actually I got frustrated and put it back in the box so I could return it and about 20 minutes later my 9 year old son comes in my room and says come here. He brings me in the kitchen and he had it all hooked up and running. lol He also knows how to program the vcr. :)
