He was a veteran actor who also recorded the 1958 top ditty "The Purple People Eater."

Sheb Wooley has died in Nashville at age 82. He'd battled leukemia for years and was hospitalized Monday, a day after visiting the funeral home to pay his respects to country music legend Johnny Cash. :(

Wooley appeared in more than 60 movies, some 50 television shows and recorded pop and country songs.

His film credits included "High Noon," "The Outlaw Josie Wales," "Giant" and "Hoosiers." He also appeared on the TV show "Rawhide."

The hit song "The Purple People Eater," about an unidentified flying object, sold three million copies in 1958.

Wooley also penned the theme song of the long-running TV show "Hee Haw."

Goodness so many entertainers are biting the dust lately. How sad:( And the "Purple People Eaters" was a big song in 1958 my senior year in high school.

I loved "Purple People Eater" and used to watch him all the time on "Rawhide"

I can remember my grandmother and mother saying that "everything happens in threes." And, I really hate to say it but that old wives' tale seems to be true (sometimes)
