View Full Version : Fox should not have shown this

It is a day to remember, not hear the "arab" or "negative muslim" point of view. I was watching Fox and Friends, and they showed some Muslim woman(I don't know which country she was from) who said she was glad 9/11 happened because it struck a blow at American arrogance. This is the last thing we NEED to hear today. It is the LAST thing families mourning loved ones lost 2 years ago need to see at 6 am.
This is not a shot at anyone's religion, so don't flame, please.
All I say is for the media to have some compassion for the families and victims.
God Bless all Americans lost on 9/11. Many of my fellow NYers are still in bad shape since these horrible attacks. And let's not forget those in Washington, and PA, and in the service.

I, for one, am glad they showed that on Fox. It keeps afresh in our minds what a sick, barbaric, and cowardly mentality a lot of those people have. It is good to remember, so that we can do our best to make certain that another act of cowardice does not occur ever again.

i hope she don't live in this "arogant" country. i will never understand a religion that promotes murder, violence, suicide, intolerance.

I agree 100%! As long as there are people who still feel this way about us, show it on tv. Helps keep us on our guard. We are SO quick to forget what happens - especially in today's busy world.
I hate to see those planes crash into the buildings, but you know what? I will watch it when it is on tv because it brings back the horror that I felt that day and reminds me that there are still terrorists out there who might try it again.

by showing this to everyone today will help us all to remember why we will never forget & why we are at war with terrorism. Its a sad day today but to everyone in the military who is fighting for us one way or another........thank you.

The religion doesn't promote it, but some people do.
I saw that also, I agree we might need to be reminded about how some feel about us, but I'm sure most of the people who lost loved ones on 9-11 didn't want to see it.

From what i have heard..though there are peaceful muslims, the religion , and founder of the religion said/says to "rid the world of infidels".
Infidels, means ALL non muslims.

Keep in mind that this is one person's opinion (and also keep in mind that most Middle Eastern countries do not value women) and there are many who are glad that we went to Afganistan and Iraq and did what we did. Not everyone hates Americans. But we do live in very different worlds and we don't follow their culture or beliefs.
As for the woman who said we were arrogant, dang straight we are. We live in the greatest country in the world. You can come here with nothing and become anything you want. We have freedoms that most countries can't even begin to comprehend. Yes, I don't consider myself a humble American. I am very proud of my country and all that it stands for. If you don't like it, go back to where ever you came from but keep in mind that the things you object to here might cost you your life somewhere else.

maybe i should have said muslim fundamentalists or extremists promote violence, murder, etc. i went to a website and read some of the Quran and Jihad was mentioned and Allah or Mohammed one tells it's followers to fight those who are against you/us, something to that effect.

I was also outraged at Fox & Friends and intend to let them know that it was insensitive and this was not the day for it. This is a day or national mourning.

Sadly, that is an attitude of many in the world. They do not understand the difference between arrogance and pride. We are one of the youngest countries in this world, and yet with the opportunities that are afforded us by our freedom, and willingness to welcome the tired huddled masses into our great nation, we are the richest, most powerful nation in the world. Yes, we are proud of that! We are proud of who we are, who we can become.
What it truly sad is that most of those that hate us, do not realise that we are also the most compassionate Nation. We reach out to our fellow man, because we do have so much. When 9/11 happened in New York, DC and Pennsylvania the people who did this thought that they would break us. Little did they realise how much stronger it would make our resolve. New York was a City that most people thought of as rude and inconsiderate. People there came together in one of our darkest hours and wanted, no, NEEDED to help each other. It is who we are as a country. Out of many, we have become one nation.
We are not perfect. We have faults, but in this world, we are the best that there is. We try. That is all any of us can truly do. We try.
God Bless Elicia Lynn Negrette. 9/11/01

I think it should have probably been a day of mourning also. I myself was out of town for a funeral, and didn't even turn on the tv. so didn't see any broadcasts of any nature.
However, and this is an unpopular opinion, I know, there is too much misconception about Islam. It saddens me. People's feelings are raw, and that is, in large part, as it should be. But people fling around attitudes, misconceptions, and just plain prejudices about Muslims and Arabs.
I mourn the Americans that were killed two years ago. I also hope our children don't have to grow up in a world so filled with hate - on either side.
Like I said, I know this isn't a popular opinion. But I've been defending it since I was about 5 years old, so if you want to flame away, I can probably handle it.
However - TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY!! So if you wanted to be a little nice...:D

I edited your quote to address just what is above. Yes, I agree, there are many misconceptions and prejudices about Muslims and Arabs, but the same could be said about Muslims and Arabs misconceptions and predjudices about Americans.
I agree completely, no child should grow up surrounded by hatred or prejudice of any kind.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Ckerr4!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CKERR!!!
Tact aside, I don't think it was a good idea to show things like that on a day when people are angry at certain people anyway. It's just throwing fuel on the fire in their hearts.

Prejudice and hate from any side is bad.
I think that what many Americans fail to realize is that there are millions - MILLIONS - of Muslims in this world who are going about their daily business. They are daughters and sons, fathers, mothers, grandparents, docors, lawyers, teachers, bankers - ordinary people. They do not think about Americans all the time. And when they do, it isn't with a veil of hatred. Many Muslims (many of whom ARE American) and many Arabs admire parts of American culture - freedom of speech, the educational system, etc. - and many have no animosity toward America. Some Americans tend to lump together the entire Middle East/Muslims/Arabs, saying "they" are all "backward, ignorant, and barbaric." Even worse, some think they are all terrorists, or that they all sympathize with the terrorists. Millions and millions of people, and they're all barbaric? All ignorant? All backward ninnies? Why is this prejudice so acceptable?
Muslims speak of infidels, this is true, but in the same way that some Christians speak of non-believers going to hell. Muslims also speak of the goodness of the "People of the Book" - Chrsitians and Jews. Nobody ever talks about that olive branch though. And it has always been there.
I just feel that learning a little about the people that we are so sure are our enemies would not be remiss. The Middle East and the Muslim World are varied places, full of culture and history. Not all women are slaves, not all men are terrorists. The generalizations cannot be made there anymore than they can be made anywhere.
Muslims and Arabs sometimes have a misconception about Americans, the same as we have about them. They see much more of us on television than we see of them on television, and that is where they would get a lot of their perceptions of us. Draw your own conclusions... (television, ugh! - def. the wrong impression of hte average American)
Oh, and Widget, this wasn't directed at you, really, just me expounding:D
