for support of your tummy, my daughter has 4 sets of stitches and today saw her midwife who said she needed to get something to give her abdomen more support but the best she could suggest was an ace bandage, I figure many of you have been through this and would have better suggestions. We though of a girdle but she said she sweats really bad in those things and is afraid her stitches would get infected.

I had natural births but I found some info that might help.

I used an ace bandage or I bought one of those neat "tummy tuckers"(exactly what Patchouli posted above) and that worked pretty good. Just make sure she puts some kind of ointment on it really good and keep it moist. I would also sometimes use the big huge bandages, kinda like the ones they put on it when you are in the hospital.
I found that using a warm moist towel helped a lot too when walking or even just sitting down. It can get pretty painful sometimes and the towel would sort-of help with the pain.
I wish her luck! I had mine 3 years ago. (I had to be cut belly-button to pantyline because of the way DD was laying). My scar is just NOW starting to faint a little bit.

I was told not to put anything on my incision with all four of my c-sections. They said that when I took a shower to let water run on the incision to help the healing process. I always kept a pillow next to me in case I needed to cough or sneeze. The pillow helps support the muscles.
Her stitches are still in even though she left the hospital? With all of my c-sections they used staples on the outside and dissolving stitches on the inside. The staples were always taken out before I left the hospital and I was only in for 2 days.

I used a ace bandage when I had both of mine. and make sure when she has to cough or sneeze she holds her stonmic because if she does not it will hurt like hell.

I'm a large person and I had the staples and dissolving stitches too. After they removed the staples, they put like a kind of tapes or butterfly bandaids across the incision before they wrapped one of those waist binders around me. But because I was so big, they had to join 2 of them together to make it all the way around. :D I've still got them in my closet somewhere. LOL I wore it all the time except when I was sleeping.
Edited to add: I'm surprised the hospital doesn't supply something for her. They did for me, and I was on Medicaid.

Try wearing "bike shorts"(with spandex) they give support, I wore them and they helped alot.

Same here ... I did use a tape. She needs to be extremely careful going up and down stairs ... that is what they told me. I was also yelled at by my pediatrician for taking my DOT to her first appointment, nobody told me, but, not supposed to drive either until you heal ... which was a bummer.
Good Luck!

They removed the staples before she left the hospital and she has the dissolving stitches, the hospital did not give her anything or any advice on support that I know of. She has some of those underwear that is made like a brief and made out of spandex so I thought of cutting part of the bottom out of and when she pulls it up it should help pull everything up and give some support. My daughter says I'm funny give me a problem and I will rig something up everytime.

With my first two they said no driving for 2 weeks and no lifting anything for 6 weeks. With my third they said no driving until I felt up to it and no lifting for 4 weeks. With my fourth they said no driving for a week and no lifting for 2 to 3 weeks.
I think most doctors take the staples out before you leave because you run the risk of your skin growing over them. That happened to me when I shattered my femur. I had my staples in for 3 or 4 weeks and the skin grew over them. It hurt so bad.
I hope she feels better soon. Tell her to take it easy as much as she can. It is so sweet of you to stay with her to help her. I am sure she really appreciates it. :)

MY STAPLES WERE TAKEN OUT BEFORE I LEFT THE HOSPITAL ALSO.
I USED A PILLOW TO HOLD AGAINST MY STOMACHE FOR SUPPORT.
OMG ~ THE COUGHING & SNEEZING, THAT HURT LIKE HELL.
BEST OF LUCK TO YOUR DAUGHTER, MESUE.
I HAVE A QUESTION -
BUT AFTER THE C-SEC, NEXT DAY DID ANYONE ELSE HAVE A DR.
PUSH DOWN REALLY HARD ON THE INCISION ?
A DR. (NOT MINE) CAME IN MY ROOM & DID THIS.
HE DIDN'T EVEN TELL ME WHAT HE WAS GOING TO DO.
I SCREAMED & SCREAMED, HIT HIM W/ MY FISTS.
I YELLED AT THE NURSES TO PUT ON MY CHART THAT
DR WAS NEVER TO COME INTO MY ROOM AGAIN.
JUST WONDERED IF THAT HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE.
(SORRY TO ASK IN YOUR THREAD)

They push on you to see if your uterus is contracting back to its normal size. Also to make sure everything is where it is supposed to be. I don't think they need to push that darn hard though. You are right it hurts really bad.
Not only did my incision hurt like heck. I had huge bruises all over my stomach from where they had to get up on the operating table and push on ly stomach to get my dot to come out. I guess she was happy where she was. I had handprint bruises for weeks after my delivery. And she is just as stubborn now as she was then.;) :D

MY SON & DAUGHTER ARE 14 MONTHS APART.
I HAD A NORMAL DELIVERY W/ MY DAUGHTER.
WHEN THE DR. PUSHED ON MY STOMACH , IT WAS A LITTLE PRESSURE
AND HE MOVED HIS HANDS IN LITTLE CIRCLES
THE DR. WHO DID IT AFTER MY C-SEC. PUT ALL OF HIS WEIGHT INTO IT.
PUSHING STRAIGHT DOWN.

LOL You slugged him with your fist, I bet he was a little more gentle with the next lady. He should've told you what he was going to do and asked permission. I bet he did after you slugged him.

I GRABBED HIS LEFT ARM W/ MY FIST & HELD HIM THERE WHILE
I HIT HIM W/ MY RIGHT FIST. I WAS SCREAMING & SHAKING.
HE TRIED TO SAY HE IS A DR & HAS A RIGHT TO GIVE ME MEDICAL SERVICES.
I SCREAMED ITS MY RIGHT TO REFUSED THOSE SERVICES. THATS
WHEN I HAD THE NURSES WRITE IT ON MY CHART, THAT HE IS NEVER TO COME INTO MY ROOM AGAIN. THAT WAS ALMOST 3 YRS AGO.
I STILL HAVE A 'SPOT' NEAR MY INCISION, IF THE KIDS SIT ON IT
OR ITS PUSHED, IT HURTS SO BAD.
I SHOULD HAVE SLUGGED HIM IN THE NOSE HUH ?

I am not sure why they would push so hard. That makes no sense. I hope I didn't sound like I was being unsympathetic.

If you had to choose....would you choose a c-section or natural birth?

Well, I had a c-section with the first child and a natural birth with the second child. I would definitely choose natural birth but with something for pain. With the c-section, I had an epidural, so it didn't hurt until after the birth. Then it hurt like h*ll and as with any major surgery, I took awhile to recover and heal. With the natural birth, I had absolutely nothing at all for the pain and I thought I was going to die when they had to pull my child with forceps! But at least I recovered quickly.
