in a small park, the people that maintain the park know this due to the fact they found the shedded skin and all the chickens that roam the park freely are gone. They estimate the snake to be about 6-7 feet long. What kind of a nut turns such a creature loose in a park where children go to play.

:eek:The same kind of nut that realized an alligator was not a good pet, and released it in a river in Salt Lake City!!! (Fortunately it was still a baby, and was caught)

I know of someone who let their boa loose but it was a hell of a lot bigger than 7 feet. This snake could eat a child with no problem. He let it loose in my neighborhood. I went to his house @ one point, the snake had it's own bedroom (that's how big this snake was.) He let it out of the bedroom, when it got close to me, it literally felt like bugs were crawling all over me, I couldn't move. As the snake passed by me, I got the hell out of the house.

So what happened is the snake still crawling around the neighborhood, surely there is some law against this.

Someone had come out and got the snake, it's possibly in a musuem, zoo or some place like that. I know they didn't kill it, it was actually harmless to men. But women, that's another story.

The guys wife couldn't even get close to her husband while the snake was out of it's room. She was attacked by the snake on a couple different occassions. The only thing they could think of the snake thought her husband was her mate. The snake was protective over him.

Thats what I don't understand why people who decide to get rid of a pet don't call a zoo and try to get rid of them by getting them into a safe enviorment for the pet and everyone. A large snake does not care what it eats a rodent, pet or a small child they don't know the difference it all looks like dinner to them.

I have a 7 1/2 foot red tail boa constrictor that my husband & I rescued from horrible living conditions. Basil is very tame & is used at the Vet School open house each year for the children to see & pet. He has never hissed or tried to strike anyone! He is kept in a specially made LARGE glass cage with metal locking (with a key) lids. He is not able to escape from his cage. That being said, Basil is the only snake I will ever own. I think he is awesome!
But, most boas in captivity do not get very large. Pythons get very large...as in needing at least 2 people to handle them safely. I do not think that snakes (especially pythons) should be sold as pets. Most people do not realize & understand the care these animals need & that they are a potentially dangerous animal to have. Most people get them because it "is cool to watch them eat". Basil only eats dead rats that we buy already dead & frozen. It is never safe (for the reptile) to feed live food. When people realize that they have more on their hands than they want to handle, they simply dump them. Most zoos & museums already have enough of these reptiles on display & will not take them. I think it is wrong to dump them anywhere! I hope they find the snake soon!

brumzoo you are right a lot of zoos are full, but maybe a pet store might take one to resale, a lot of people would rather dump one than see someone else make money on it. I took a guina pig so my little cousin could get her another pet, big mistake on my part, I gave him away twice both times he was returned to me in a filthy cage, these kids had not bothered cleaning the poor things cage. Finally I called a pet store and the lady I spoke with agreed to take him to resale, but when she saw him she said he was going home with her she raised guinea pigs for resale and was thrilled to get him since she did not have one like him he has the fur that looks like he has a cowlick its actually a type of a guinea pig, so he is currently doing stud service and happy I guess. And I was happy to find him a good place for him to be.
