 I thought I would try something new!!! I have a dial up service and so I thought I would try the cable sign up.
 Well, needless to say, I still have dial up, my son-in-law was good enough to come over and hook up my cable internet connection.
GUESS WHAT PEOPLE    I've still got dial up. The poor man worked on it for over an hour, and all it kept saying was the connection would not work.
So I'm back to dial-up, and I guess I'll keep it for a while. Only bad thing about dial-up is nobody can call unless I get another phone line, and do I really want to do that.
 Oh well I haven't whined for a while, so this is it for today. Have a good day people    :D :D :D :) :) :)

Can't you call tech support for the cable service? They should be able to walk you thru the setup. Once you get it set up, you will LOVE it! :)

Time Warner came out and installed our cable modem (Road Runner) for free. Will your cable company not install it for you, either for free or for a low price?
Good luck!

I've had cable internet service for almost four years. The cable company had to come out and hook up a cable modem and then configure my computer with their software. When I got a new computer all I had to do was connect the modem to it but when I first had it installed it had to be done by a technician.

I actually had to call Comcast High Speed technical support Friday to get mine back running after my hard drive was reformatted due to viruses. When I purchased the computer in December I installed the high speed access myself as it was quite simple. All I had to do was follow some easy onscreen instructions whereas the first time we got high speed access Comcast sent out a technician to install it on my old computer about 3 years ago. The trouble this time was due to some drivers missing but after 15-20 minutes or so on the phone with a nice technician the problem was solved! I would definitely call and speak with a technician if at all possible. Good luck!!

Oh boy - same thing happened to me. I got connected for cable my neighbor came over to do all the techy stuff. 5 HOURS LATER STILL NO CABLE. He ended up completely restoring my computer to factory install to get it to work. I am glad I have cable but I lost everything that was in my computer.

Time Warner came out for me. Unfortunately the tech they sent out didn't know crap about XP so it took forever to get on line. They had to send out a second tech. But it works and I'm a happy trooper.

I'm just curious as to how people can hook themselves up to a cable hook up by themselves. I have Comcast which was Media One when I first got cable internet service and then it later changed to ATTBI and now Comcast. They had to send a technician because the modem had to be configured with their software which the technician took with him when he left. They also had to put in a splitter. When I got my new computer all I had to do was plug the modem into it. The modem was already configured so I didn't need a techician to come out to the house for that.

I hooked mine up myself. I did have to call the tech and was informed I needed an ethernet connector. After that it was a piece of cake.

We also have cable internet AND we got a "free" self instalation kit!! WHAT A CROCK!!! You have to be a PC genius to figure these things out, And everyone I have talked to with this service had lots of probs getting it started, BUT ONCE IT IS ALL DONE YOU NEVER HAVE TO MESS WITH IT AGAIN AND I LOVE MY CABLE!! I wouldnt change to anything eles EVER again!
